Mandala Murders

MUMBAI: Netflix’s latest psychological crime drama, Mandala Murders, which premiered on 25th July 2025, has swiftly captured the attention of thriller enthusiasts across the country. Set in the hauntingly atmospheric town of Charandaspur, Uttar Pradesh, this eight-episode series plunges viewers into a chilling narrative where ancient myth meets modern menace.

Inspired by the bestselling novel The Butcher of Benares, the show is helmed by the talented Gopi Puthran — renowned for his gritty storytelling — in collaboration with co-director Manan Rawat. Produced by YRF Entertainment, Mandala Murders stands out for its immersive storytelling, unrelenting suspense, and richly layered characters.

Marking her much-anticipated digital debut, Vaani Kapoor portrays the formidable CBI officer Rea Thomas. She is joined by Vaibhav Raj Gupta, who delivers a powerful performance as Vikram Singh — a disgraced former cop battling inner demons while pursuing the truth behind a string of ritualistic killings.

The murders, disturbing in their precision and symbolism, are executed in intricate mandala patterns — the macabre signature of a secretive cult called Aayast Mandal.

Vaani Kapoor, who takes centre stage as the lead in Mandala Murders, is earning widespread acclaim for her powerful performance. Her portrayal has struck a chord with both critics and audiences, who have wholeheartedly given the series a resounding thumbs up. Kapoor’s compelling screen presence and nuanced acting have firmly established her as a standout in this gripping crime thriller.

At a recent panel during the IndianTelevision.com Content Hub event, TellyChakkar caught up with Vaani Kapoor, who shared insights into her working dynamic with co-star Vaibhav Raj Gupta.

“Just yesterday, Vaibhav and I had a deep conversation about our personal journeys — the struggles, the milestones. The chemistry you see on screen is really a testament to the writing, the story, and the direction — credit goes to the creators, not just the actors,” she said with candour.

Praising her co-actor, Kapoor added, “He’s a wonderful human being. I always believe that mutual respect and humility are vital on set. There should never be ego between co-actors. Vaibhav and I are very similar in that regard — we don’t chase fame or money. We both follow our instincts and strive to remain grounded, dedicated, and focused. Ultimately, we surrender to the director’s vision.”

With its gripping storyline and layered performances, Mandala Murders has earned critical acclaim and audience love alike — with the chemistry between Vaani and Vaibhav standing out as one of the series’ many highlights.
