Discovery) is all set to unleash a delicious new dose of fun: DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2 is appearing in cinemas on *1st August, 2025* ! While The Bad Guys in 2022 treated its audiences with the newly subverted heist genre, The Bad Guys 2 is enroute to deliver a more ambitious, world-hopping second chapter that raises the stakes for both its story and its characters.
The creative team behind The Bad Guys 2 walked in with an aim to stretch the bounds of what they had already achieved, with this new installment. Returning director Pierre Perifel utilised fanbase love for the iconic animal outlaws to steer the narrative in unexpected directions, thinking beyond genre and working on additional character nuance and context. Picking up on innovations from Aaron Blabey’s New York Times bestselling book series, Perifel and his team have traversed new reins with the franchise’s signature blend of sophistication and absurdist humor.
Most productions wait for box office results before starting to think of where to go next– The Bad Guys 2 found itself in a slightly different path, entering development five months before the first film even reached theaters. _“Starting a sequel that early is almost unheard of,”_ returning producer Damon Ross notes. The team gathered a strategy board of artists, writers and key creatives who were well versed with the tone and spirit of the original film, and spent days brainstorming what would surprise audiences while staying true to the heart of The Bad Guys. _“You have no idea how the first film will perform or how audiences will respond, but we were confident in what we had built, and the studio leadership was supportive,”_ Ross recalled.
