MUMBAI: Kaamdhenu Gaumata actress Harleen Kaur Rekhi, who has charmed audiences with her performances, opened up about her love for Ganesh Chaturthi and why the festival holds such a special place in her heart.

Known for her lively and candid nature, Harleen shared that the festive season brings unmatched joy, energy, and togetherness. “For me, modak is something I can eat at any time during this festival,” she laughed. “Along with modak, I absolutely enjoy bhaji and puran poli—I just can’t resist these festive delicacies. That’s the charm of Ganesh Chaturthi; everyone is so excited and filled with joy. Honestly, the enthusiasm is even greater than Diwali. In Diwali we have flowers, lights, and diyas, but here we have everything—music, dhol-nagadas, bands, flowers, gulal—it feels like a wedding! Ganesh Chaturthi is like a mix of Holi and Diwali together, but celebrated on an even grander scale.”

For Harleen, the festival is not just about food and fun, but also about her deep spiritual connection with Lord Ganesha. “It’s never just about us deciding to bring Bappa home—it’s his will and his blessing. I remember once I was busy with work, and my mother asked me, ‘Do you really want to spend all eleven days with Bappa?’ I said yes, and she explained that if Bappa wishes to come, everything will fall into place. It’s always his calling,” she recalled.

This year, although her mother has managed most of the preparations, Harleen has made sure to visit nearby pandals. “Even spending a little time there is incredible. The chants, the decorations, the energy—Mumbai completely comes alive during Ganesh Chaturthi. No wonder Mumbaikars are so deeply in love with this festival,” she said.

For the actress, who continues to win hearts with her television work, the festival goes far beyond rituals. “Ganesh Chaturthi is larger than life. I believe Bappa brings smiles to everyone. Even if I couldn’t prepare as much as last year, my devotion remains the same. I only pray to welcome him each year with the same warmth and love—and when you call Bappa with a pure heart, he always comes.”
