MUMBAI: Childhood is a kaleidoscope of sunlit laughter, spontaneous puddle-splashes, the scent of fresh homemade meals, and the wide-eyed wonder of discovering something new. For Sony SAB’s beloved artists - Sumbul Touqeer, Mohitt Maalik, Shrenu Parikh, and Rajat Verma - those early years linger in memory, quietly shaping both character and craft. This Children’s Day, in the midst of busy sets and scripted scenes, they pause to revisit the carefree games, treasured rituals, and tender lessons that still anchor them and remind us all that the child within never truly fades.
Sumbul Touqeer, playing the role of Anvita in Itti Si Khushi, shared, "Being the eldest, I grew up as a second parent to my sister. My childhood was all about looking out for my little sister and doing everything from her homework to resolving her squabbles. Now, playing Anvita, I feel that same sense of responsibility - I look at my onscreen siblings and instantly become their 'didi' on set! This show truly brings back memories of those noisy, happy evenings at home.”
Mohitt Maalik, who plays Lord Shiv in Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki Ganesh Kartikey, said, “As a father, I now often feel like I’m reliving my own childhood through my son’s eyes. There’s a sense of time turning backwards - and I’m loving every minute of it! My most treasured memories are the simple stories that found me when I stopped chasing them. Those journeys - like flying kites with my family or just spending time doing nothing - still inspire me. Whenever I get busy with shoots, these memories become my anchor and remind me to cherish what truly matters.”
Shrenu Parikh, who is seen essaying the role of Goddess Parvati in Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki Ganesh Kartikey, shared, “As a child my favorite past time was mimicking my people around me, I feel I was always an actor. I would mimic my teachers my maids and the whole family would enjoy! Our free period during school hours was Shrenu doing mimicry of everyone! Slowly I started mimicking actors too so I was famous as an entertainer! My teacher once complained to my mom that I mimic her, when my mom reprimanded me I was like it comes naturally to me as I see a person I observe them and i could imitate them! My confidence , imagination and recreation was built in childhood itself, which helped me once I grew up!”
Rajat Verma, who essays the role of Virat in Itti Si Khushi, said, “When I look back at my childhood, it’s the unexpected victories that stick - like winning a midnight cricket match with streetlights or playing with my cousins until our sneakers were covered in dust. Portraying Virat in Itti Si Khushi reminds me that kindness and resilience are lessons first learnt on those uneven pavements and in scraped-knee laughs. On a day like this, I simply treasure the fact that what we think of as small moments often shape the biggest parts of who we become.”
