MUMBAI: Akshay Singh has managed to carve a niche for himself in the Indian Film Industry where thousands come to try their luck. And that too treading on a path that he has made on his own terms. His journey in Mumbai was not always comfortable, and it was his sheer courage, conviction, and determination to rely on himself that kept him going.
He said, "The biggest challenge for me was my own decision of not taking any help from my family financially or otherwise, even though they are very well established back in my hometown. For me it was always about my choice so my resources.
Managing finances, finding work, and making a name in an unfamiliar city was never easy, but I knew if I made it, I wanted it to be entirely on my own merit. That was my biggest test and also my biggest strength."
And that decision gave birth to many new milestones in his career, be it his Feature Film Pinky Beauty Parlour, or two of his Web Series Assi Nabbe Pure Sau and now Naam Gum Jayega, which is currently streaming on Amazon MX.
On asked about his feelings on his Web Series Naam Gum Jayega currently streaming on a major platform like Amazon MX, Akshay says he is just jubilant. He added, "I do see the streaming of my web series Naam Gum Jayega on Amazon MX as a big turning point for me, as I understand from the responses from all around. And I do feel confident that it will open so many more doors for me, as it has already started happening."
"My Feature Film Pinky Beauty Parlour after its International Film Festival journey led to the opening of doors for me to reach here to a web series on Amazon. I know this will now take me further ahead in my journey as a filmmaker, be it as an actor, writer, director, or producer, now that both of these works of mine are out there in the world for the people to see," he added.
Coming neither from a Film family nor taking any financial support from his family to establish himself in the Film Industry, to today putting up projects as a writer director and producer all by himself and his own merit, Akshay feels he sure has come a long way and is gearing up for more.
Akshay Singh is an inspiration to all those who come from small towns with big dreams in their eyes. His advice to aspiring filmmakers and storytellers comes from his own experience. He said, "My message to any new talent wanting to follow this path is that honest, dedicated, and persistent hard work is the only way, and nothing beats that. Of course some amount of inherent talent and skills and the ability and ways to hone those skills are also required."
What next? "I am happy to share that discussions on me solely directing a project for another producer have already been initiated, and I am happily looking forward to that collaboration. Yes, now I know I will have to gear up for the next phase of my career, where I will look at maintaining an amazing balance between acting, writing, and directing films and series for my own production house, and also collaborating with like minded producers and creators for either solely acting in, writing, or directing their projects," he said.
"As a filmmaker, I strongly believe that collaboration is the way forward, and on that note, I am excited to share that I am on the verge of finalising some amazing collaborations for my next directorial project," Akshay concluded.
