Kaun Banega Crorepati: Manoj Bajpayee recalls the deeply moving moment he first met Amitabh Bachchan

MUMBAI: Manoj Bajpayee recently reflected on a defining moment in his life during his appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati 17, where he recounted meeting Amitabh Bachchan for the very first time nearly 28 years ago.

The meeting happened during a screening of his breakthrough film Satya. At the time, a well-known journalist convinced him to step out of his car and then locked it from inside, forcing him into an encounter he wasn’t emotionally prepared for.

Nervous and overwhelmed at the thought of facing his childhood idol, Manoj rushed straight into a washroom to escape the situation.

When he finally gathered the courage to step out, assuming Amitabh Bachchan had already left, he instead found Abhishek Bachchan standing there.

Moments later, Amitabh Bachchan himself appeared, leaving Manoj completely stunned. He remembered, “Everything froze. I couldn’t hear anything. My mind went blank. The man who inspired me since the fifth grade was right in front of me.”

Still trembling with excitement, Manoj softly asked, “Sir… can I… may I hug you?” Amitabh Bachchan agreed, giving him a hug that Manoj describes as unforgettable.

Reliving the moment on the KBC stage felt like a beautiful full-circle experience—from being a nervous young actor hiding in a washroom to standing confidently beside the man who shaped his dreams.
