MUMBAI: Anushka Sharma’s much-anticipated return to the screen, the sports drama Chakda 'Xpress, may finally see the light of day after years of being stalled.
The film, a biopic chronicling the inspirational journey of legendary cricketer Jhulan Goswami, completed filming in 2022, but its release on the streaming platform Netflix has remained uncertain.
Recent events, however, have reignited hope. Following the Indian women’s cricket team’s historic victory at the ICC Women’s World Cup, the makers of the film have reportedly appealed directly to Netflix’s top executives.

A source indicated that the producers are urging the platform to release the long-awaited project now, stating that a biopic on a legend like "Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience."
The film’s protracted delay was reportedly due to internal disagreements and budgetary issues.
Insiders revealed that the production went over budget, and the streaming platform heads were initially dissatisfied with how the final product shaped up.
However, the same sources insisted that the movie "is still a solid film" and should be released, especially given the renewed public interest in women's cricket following the national team’s recent success.
Amidst the growing excitement and reports of renewed internal discussions at Netflix, the focus has shifted to the subject herself.
When asked about the latest push for the film’s release, Jhulan Goswami addressed the situation cautiously.
The cricket legend stated that she was not aware of any new official updates regarding the release date.
She remained optimistic, however, offering a hopeful message to fans and the film team: "I am not aware of any such update. Let's hope for the best."
Chakda 'Xpress, directed by Prosit Roy, marks Anushka Sharma’s full-fledged acting comeback after a gap of seven years, following her last major role in 2018's Zero.
The film traces Goswami’s journey from a small town in Bengal to becoming one of the fastest and most celebrated female pacers in the world.
As the rights rest with Netflix, the final decision on the streaming debut is now expected soon, following this month's internal review.
