MUMBAI: Kartik Aaryan’s career trajectory is entering an exciting new phase as he prepares to star in the fantasy-folklore action film, Naagzilla: Naag Lok Ka Pehla Kaand.
The ambitious project is being produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, and the ace filmmaker is already strategising to expand the film into a multi-part cinematic franchise.
The film, which sees Kartik Aaryan take on the role of an ichhaadhaari naag (a shape-shifting serpent that can assume human form), is scheduled for a grand release on August 14, 2026, coinciding with the festival of Nag Panchami.
Sources close to the production have confirmed that the project is viewed as a long-term investment.
An insider revealed the exciting plan, stating, "As soon as the first Naagzilla film is launched, the pre-production for the next film in the series will start.
Kartik will be the only constant in thpe series. The rest of the cast and crew will change in every instalment."
This strategic decision means that while the lead star and his serpent character, Preyamvadeshwar Pyare Chand, will remain, subsequent instalments will feature different supporting actors, directors, and technical teams, allowing the universe to evolve with fresh perspectives.
The announcement underscores the solidified, multi-film professional partnership between Johar and Aaryan, putting their past disagreements firmly behind them.
Their collaboration officially begins with the romantic comedy Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri, which is slated to arrive in theatres on December 25, 2025.
In preparation for his challenging, high-concept role, Kartik Aaryan has been immersing himself in the lore of the snake-human characters, studying veteran actress Reena Roy's iconic performance in Rajkumar Kohli’s 1976 film Nagin.
A meeting with Roy is also reportedly being planned to help Aaryan further understand the nuances of portraying a mythical shape-shifting creature.
This creature-adventure film is anticipated to be a defining franchise for the leading man, firmly establishing his versatility in the fantasy genre.
