MUMBAI: The renowned actor Amitabh Bachchan once provided a rare and deeply personal glimpse into the birth of his granddaughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, in November 2011.

Speaking to the media shortly after the delivery, he revealed the immense strength and resilience shown by his daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, during childbirth.

The patriarch of the family recounted the emotional experience, explaining that despite the availability of medical assistance, Aishwarya was adamant about having a natural birth.

He shared that Aishwarya was in acute pain for a significant duration before the baby was born.

He was quoted as saying, “She had to struggle, but I commend her that she was in acute labour for a long time, almost two to three hours.

But she persisted and said she wanted a normal delivery. She did not use any epidural or painkiller.”

This statement, which resurfaces often, highlighted Aishwarya’s firm decision to endure the labour pain naturally, resisting the modern tendency to opt for C-sections or medical pain relief methods, which he noted were common at the time.

Following the birth, Amitabh and his son, Abhishek Bachchan, stepped out of their residence to announce the joyous news to the assembled press.

Amitabh also humorously commented on the newborn's appearance, noting, “It seems to me that she looks like Aishwarya. But as you all know, children’s faces change daily.

I still believe she looks like Aishwarya. Some people in the family think she resembles Jaya or Abhishek a little.”

During the same interaction, the veteran star confirmed that he would be taking time off from his professional commitments to focus entirely on his new role as a grandfather.

He stated he was "free now" after finishing his work on the television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati, adding that he would now stay at home, with Abhishek jokingly clarifying that his father would be spending his time looking after his granddaughter.
