MUMBAI: Actor Adrija Roy has spoken up strongly for the television industry at a time when many discussions, interviews, and social media conversations have highlighted how TV actors and the TV medium are often looked down upon. Recently, statements made inside the Bigg Boss house especially remarks implying that television is a “lesser” space sparked reactions from across the entertainment world.
Amid this debate, Adrija Roy offers a grounded and heartfelt perspective that reflects the reality of thousands of artistes who build their careers on daily television.
“I love television, and I genuinely love doing it,” she says firmly. “It’s not that I don’t want to explore other mediums, but TV is something that gives you consistent work. You go on set every day, you shoot every day and the biggest thing is that you have work. I can never disrespect that.”
Adrija feels that the criticism often comes from people who don’t understand how hard TV actors work. “People who comment negatively don’t really know the process. They don’t know the hours we put in, the deadlines we work under, the intensity of our schedules. It’s a different level of dedication.”
She also highlights how television remains the country's biggest entertainment platform. “All the top reality shows come on TV. Yes, digital content is huge today, but TV has its own market and its own loyal audience. In my house, my mom watches shows like crazy, and my grandmother even watches repeat telecasts. That kind of connection is unique to TV.”
For Adrija, the medium is deeply personal. “Television has given me everything my career, my identity, the recognition and the love I have today. Whatever I am, TV has made me that. So disrespecting television is never an option for me.”
As the debate around mediums continues, Adrija’s voice serves as a reminder that television remains the backbone of Indian entertainment a platform that supports countless artists and brings stories into millions of homes every day.
