“I relate the most to my character Deepti’s empathetic and sensitive side” says Deeksha Joshi of Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible

Pushpa Impossible

MUMBAI: Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible continues to resonate with audiences through the inspiring journey of Pushpa. Following a significant 7-year leap, the show now explores powerful new phases in the lives of its beloved characters. Joining this much-loved narrative is acclaimed Gujarati film actress Deeksha Joshi, who makes her Hindi television debut as Deepti, bringing sensitivity and depth to a character caught between unresolved guilt, maternal instinct, and a renewed commitment to family.

In a candid conversation, Deeksha Joshi opens up about what drew her to Pushpa Impossible, and what viewers can expect from this new chapter.

1. What made you make your television debut with Pushpa Impossible and to take up the character of Deepti?

When I was first briefed about Deepti, I immediately felt I understood her and could relate to her. That was the primary reason I said yes to the character. There is a softness, an empathy in her that felt familiar to me. I have also always wished to work with Sony SAB and Hats Off Productions, so this was a very special opportunity. Pushpa Impossible is such a widely appreciated show, and to make my Hindi television debut with a show that has an established identity and a strong emotional core felt like the right decision at the right time.

2. The show has taken a significant 7-year leap. How does Deepti’s journey evolve?

Deepti is a mother now, and her journey has become far more layered and emotional. She is trying to mend things with her adopted daughter Swara and realises how deeply hurt Swara must be feeling after being left behind. Deepti carries that guilt with her, even though it was never her wish to abandon Swara or make her feel unwanted. At the same time, she is also handling family responsibilities, especially with regard to Rashi and her wedding. Overall, Deepti is now trying to be there for her family more than ever, perhaps also because she pursued her career for a long time earlier.

3. What aspect of Deepti’s personality do you relate to the most, and what challenged you the most?

The part of Deepti that I relate to the most is her empathetic and sensitive side. She feels things very deeply, and that is something I connect with as a person. What really inspires me, though, is her strength and endurance. The way she holds herself together through emotional turmoil, guilt, and responsibility is something I truly admire. That inner resilience is what I would like to cultivate more in my own life. So, in a way, Deepti is both familiar to me and aspirational.

4. How did it feel stepping onto a Hindi TV show set for the first time? Were there any first-day nerves or special moments you won’t forget?

Of course there were nerves! In fact, I am still very nervous every day when I go on set. I have immense respect for all television actors because they are so well-trained, technically and in terms of sheer stamina. For me, this medium is like being in a continuous workshop or an ongoing acting course. I feel eternally grateful to everyone on the set, from co-actors to the crew, because I am constantly learning from them, and that in itself is very special.

5. How has the experience been working with the cast of Pushpa Impossible?

Karuna ma’am is absolutely flawless. There is so much to learn from her, both as a performer and as a person. She carries herself with so much grace and elegance, and her energy on set is unmatched. I genuinely love being around her because just observing her teaches me a lot. All the actors who are new to the show are also wonderful performers, and I have bonded well with them. I already knew some of the cast members like Jayesh More and Brinda Trivedi from before, and they are both brilliant actors. Honestly, everyone on this set is very strong in their craft. I just pray and hope that over time I can grow into that level of performer as well.

7. Without giving away spoilers, what can viewers expect in the upcoming episodes?

Viewers can expect a lot of thrill ahead. The entire Kadambari-Jugal track will be super exciting, and so will the Shastri track. Plus, Rashi's engagement and celebrations kick off soon. So there'll be lots of colours, happiness, and an equal dose of drama!
