The Good Road chosen to represent India at the Oscars was not the first favourite of the chief of jury, Goutam Ghose. Goutam himself made this statement and even went to the extent of saying that even though The Lunchbox was his first favourite followed by The Good Road but he couldn’t select the former as majority ruled in favour of The Good Road.
These comments have apparently not gone down well with actress Sonali Kulkarni (she is a part of The Good Road) who feels it was highly inappropriate on Goutam’s part to have stated them publicly.
Talking to Tellychakkar.com, Sonali says, “I was shocked to hear the jury chief saying that my film that his committee had chosen was not his favourite. Your favourite can be anything. But you have taken a unanimous decision, haven’t you? So you should support the decision that your committee has taken. You are in a way denying your committee’s harmony by saying that you had a different point of view. This doesn’t impress me at all and shakes my faith in the selection committee altogether.”
Ever since The Good Road piped The Lunchbox in its race to the Oscars, it has been mired in controversies. Anurag Kashyap, one of the co-producers of The Lunchbox vented out his frustration on Twitter and even deleted his account later on in protest. When asked if she felt bad about Anurag’s outburst, Sonali explains that anyone would have felt bad but his frustration was directed towards his film not getting selected and not towards The Good Road.
Sonali also refutes all rumours doing the rounds that Narendra Modi was instrumental in getting her film selected. “I don’t think they get enough time to look into film affairs. It’s trivial to say that Narendra Modi had a hand in my movie getting the nod ahead of The Lunchbox.”
As of now, Sonali is gearing up to promote her film in USA. “The job is only half done. We have to compete with many other foreign films to finally make it to the best five,” says Sonali, keeping her fingers crossed.
Tellychakkar.com wishes her and The Good Road all the very best.
