I have no illusions of making a grand comeback on TV - Salil Acharya

Salil Acharya
Actor Salil Acharya who was earlier part of many a successful K shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kasautii Zindagi Kay, Kasturi, Kkavyanjali is getting back to television after a hiatus of six long years. He will now be seen essaying a central character in the upcoming “Charulata” story of Bindass’ Yeh Hai Aashiqui. The show is jointly produced by Lost Boy and BBC Worldwide Productions. Talking about his comeback, Salil told Tellychakkar.com, “I simply love the show and its format. The characters in Yeh Hai Aashiqui are realistic and I am glad to be part of this show. Also, I hear that the show is doing very well. TV today has changed quite a lot. And I am having butterflies and goose bumps as I get back.” On what kept him away from TV for a good long six years, the actor said, “When recession hit in the year 2008, I was not very excited at the type of roles that were on offer. That is when radio happened to me. The radio shows of mine kept me alive and were successful too. And when you do different mediums and get involved into it, I believe in not doing half-hearted stuff. So I held on to radio while TV took a backseat.” Salil who has been the successful breakfast radio jockey on the show Kasa Kai Mumbai on Radio City 91.1 recently made his mind to get back. “This year, I had a guest appearance in Aashiqui 2 which actually reignited my love for the camera. After this, Vikas who is a good friend of mine approached me for this role in Yeh Hai Aashiqui. I made a conscious decision of testing waters before jumping into full-fledged drama. Also, I find it ridiculous that a show needs to prove its worth in say 3-6 months. I do not know how I am going to fit into the present scenario of TV. Let’s see how it goes,” quipped Salil. Talking further, he said, “I am glad that I have not aged much. I hate to play a college student though. I am looking for slightly mature drama, which will give me a scope to do performance-oriented roles. Having said this, I have no illusions of a grand comeback to TV. Also, I would not call this experience with Yeh Hai Aashiqui as my comeback, but a build up to comeback.” Salil, we wish you a great second innings on TV.
