We had earlier reported that Rahul Bose was to auction 16 iconic memorabilia donated by prominent celebrities for the purpose of charity through his Foundation.
"The auction of iconic memorabilia donated by 16 legendary Indians for a noble cause has made every Indian proud," Bose quipped talking of the auction. The auction ceremony was held at a five-star hotel on 22 February.
The donors were Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Abhinav Bindra, Charles Correa, Amitav Ghosh, R K Laxman and Raghu Rai.
Prominent among the donations was Ustad Amjad Ali Khan's iconic sarod. Later speaking to journalists Khan said that he was happy to have contributed for a social cause. The autographed sarod that went under the hammer fetched Rs 16 lakh.
A memorable moment of the draw was when Akhtar bid for Laxman's piece-Hand Drawn Originals-'Six Decades of the Common Man'. And he burst out with joy when he became the lucky owner of the art pieces.
While Mallika Advani conducted the auction, Bose narrated a special story associated with each of the memorabilia.
