He was popularly known as the Evergreen hero. He was born as Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand on 26 September 1923 in Punjab. He graduated with a BA degree in English Literature from the Government College, Lahore.He married actress Kalpana Kartik and has two children Suneil Anand and Devina Anand.He made his first major debut with the film Ziddi (1948), co-starring Kamini Kaushal, which was a success.He was a complete romantic and a chocolate boy of his times.He is most popularly known for his films Baazi (1951), Aandhiyan (1952), Taxi Driver, House No. 44, Nau Do Gyarah , Pocket Maar, Munimji, Funtoosh, C.I.D., Paying Guest,Solva Saal, Kala Pani, Kala Bazar,Baat Ek Raat Ki, Manzil,Tere Ghar Ke Saamne,Guide,Prem Pujari,Jewel Thief, Tere Mere Sapne, , Hum Naujawan (1985), Lashkar (1989),Sau Crore (1991), Censor (2000)etc. All of these were major successes and earned him fame overseas too.Dev Anand has been a source of inspiration and a godfather for many of the industry actors like Zarina Wahab,Jackie Shroff,Richa Sharma(,Zeenat Amaan,Tina Munim and helped them in getting their major break.Dev Anand was not just an actor,but also a writer, director and producer.Dev Anand was found dead in his room at The Washington Mayfair Hotel in London on 3 December 2011 of a cardiac arrest.Anand also won Padma Bhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award,and various Lifetime Achievement awards.
