Man of Masses NTR Jr. opens about the thrilling under water sequences in Devara: Part 1

MUMBAI: Devara: Part 1' is making waves worldwide, capturing the attention of audiences and industry insiders alike. Recently, Man of Masses NTR Jr. opened up about his journey through the complexities of filming the underwater sequences that played a crucial role in the film, offering an insider’s perspective on the challenges and triumphs of bringing such scenes to life.

From the outset, NTR Jr. emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities. . After taking a short break to attend the Oscars, NTR Jr. returned to tackle the demanding underwater sequences of Devara: Part 1. These scenes, heavily reliant on visual effects, required precise timing and CGI to ensure a timely release. "The underwater sequences, along with the shark scenes, took us about 35 days to shoot, and it wasn't easy," he explained.

Water added another layer of complexity to the process. "I don't particularly like water; I’m more of a mountain person, so it was tough," he admitted. Yet, as an actor, he understands the necessity of facing extreme situations, regardless of personal comfort.

The physical demands of underwater filming were intense. "Being in the water for long periods took a toll on my health," he added, highlighting the challenges posed by the winter cold and the rigors of constantly getting in and out of the pool. Despite these hardships, the rewards of seeing the film's release and receiving applause made the struggle worthwhile. "When you see the applause—especially for that sequence—it makes you forget the hard work."

One of the more technical aspects of underwater filming involves breath control. "As for how long I can hold my breath? About a minute, which is enough to get the shots," he explained. However, the depths they filmed at—around 10 to 12 feet—added another layer of difficulty, with pressure changes requiring constant ear adjustments. "Visibility is tough; after removing my goggles, everything becomes a blur," he described, adding that chlorine often resulted in red eyes.

Despite the challenges, he emphasized the thrill of the experience: "It was thrilling enough to keep doing it every day. It truly was a beautiful experience."

As Devara: Part 1 continues its journey, the film is proving to be a box office powerhouse. In North America, it has already grossed over $5.8M and counting, it has collected an incredible 466+ crore gross box office collection globally.
