RIP! Renowned Malayalam music director, K J Joy died at the age of 77

MUMBAI: Renowned Malayalam music director K J Joy passed away on Monday at his Chennai home, according to people in the industry. He was 77 years old. According to the sources, Joy had been bedridden for some time after suffering a stroke. Joy was known as the first "techno musician" in the Malayalam film music industry for his mastery of instruments like the keyboard in the 1970s. According to them, his funeral would take place in Chennai on Wednesday.

Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, expressed condolences on K J Joy's death, noting that his unique music drew a diverse fanbase. “Many of his songs gave Malayalees a new musical experience. His death is a great loss to the music world in general and the film industry in particular,” the CM said in his condolence statement.

M G Sreekumar, a Malayalam playback singer-composer, also expressed sorrow over his death. “My heartfelt condolences. May his soul rest in peace,” Sreekumar wished for the peaceful rest of his soul.

K J Joy was born in 1946 in the Keralan district of Thrissur. Throughout his 20-year career, he composed music for over 200 films. Since making his feature film debut in 1975, he has composed numerous songs that have captured the attention and mesmerized audiences.

Joy's testing influenced the Malayalam film music scenery significantly, and he became well-known for his music direction of Jayan-starring movies. Along with many other classic youth songs, he wrote the hugely popular song "En Swaram Poovittum Ganame," which is still loved today.

Ivan Ende Priyaputran, Chandanachola, Aradhana, Snehayamuna, Mukkuvane Snehicha Bhootham, Lisa Madalasa, Sayujyam, Itha Oru Theeram, Anupallavi, Sarpam, Shakti, Hridyam Padunnu, Chandrahasam, Manushya Mrigam, and Karimpucha are just a few of the more than two hundred films for which he has created music. Additionally, he had assisted numerous music directors in over 500 films.
