10 Reasons to watch Filmfare Awards on Sony TV

60th Filmfare Awards 2014

There are awards, then there are awards, and then there is the Filmfare. It's considered one of the most prestigious and oldest awards in the country, rightly so. Dollops of glamour, high octane performances, coupled with a witty and engaging host(s) make for a great show. As the biggest party rolls out on February 8 (Sunday) at 8 PM on Sony Entertainment Television, we give you ten reasons to watch and enjoy the show...read on:

The Kapil-Karan hosting fun:

It's going to be one helluva night with witty men Kapil Sharma and Karan Johar hosting the event. Both are known for their deadpan humour and one liners. While KJo has a lot of experience in this department, Sharma will be doing this for the second time in his life. But considering his popularity and the ease with which he pulls everybody's legs, it shouldn't be a difficult task for the comedian-turned-actor. Watch out for fireworks when the two men unite on stage for the biggest awards night.

Alia Bhatt's cutesie avatar:

The dimpled-beauty may be the butt of all jokes, thanks to her GK. But she will make sure to pull a fast one on her industry friends when she will take up the stage to host a segment of the show. In her cutesie avatar, she is definitely going to up the fun quotient of the awards ceremony. She is an actor, performer, singer, and now an anchor. Need we say more?

Varun Dhawan setting the stage on fire:

The SOTY boy is in his elements this season, what with his most anticipated movie 'Badlapur' being the talk of the town. He will be performing on a medley of songs from his movies as well as paying a tribute to Bollywood's legendary dancers, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, and Hrithik Roshan. Considering what a fine dancer he is, it would be quite entertaining to watch him burn the dance floor with his nimble-footed moves.

Salman Khan's on-stage dhammal:

Trust the Dabangg actor to do total dhammal on the stage whenever given an opportunity. And that's exactly what happened when the macho Khan performed to his hit numbers on the stage. But what really made the audiences sit up and take notice was Sallu's impromptu act based on his arch rival SRK's signature dance style! If that's not enough to lure you into watching this show, here's another tid-bit...Khan reprised his famous Jhumme Ki Raat Hai step with Deepika Padukone, while KJo, Kapil and Sidharth Malhotra joined in the fun.

The stunning set:

Art director Varsha Jain has put up a stunning set that adds sheen and magic to the already dazzling show. Her eye for details and the grandeur of the elaborate sets make for a great watch. Be it the dual-toned colours, the gorgeous lighting or the intricate detailing, it made for a classy set that turned the night even more glamorous. Good job, Ms Jain!

Style quotient on the red carpet:

From daring negligee tops to thigh-slit gowns, Bollywood's most beautiful ladies turned up in their best  outfits. While the men kept it classy in suits and coats, the ladies played around with a lot of colours, hues and cuts. If you want to learn the latest fashion trends, all you have to do is watch the awards night to pick a cue or two from our lovely ladies.

Madhuri and Dr Nene's lovey-dovey moment:

The generally reserved Dr Nene was quite a sport at the awards night. He was asked by Kapil to romantically feed pani puris to his lovely wife and proclaim his love publicly. He obliged, while Madhuri broke into her signature smile. Tune into the show to get a taste of the surgeon's Bollywood side. Awww, isn't it?

The Baap of Bollywood awards:

It's no doubt that Filmfare is considered the 'Baap' of all award shows, for the grandeur, the colourful sets and the amazing performances. You would also enjoy the content and witty, impromptu lines because there's some great writing on the show.

Credibility:

In a time and age when most award shows are either bought or 'fixed', here's one credible show that actually honours talents. Don't believe us? Well, if you have been following the awards this season, you would have noticed top heroines walking away with the Best Actress award, but Kangana Ranaut didn't pick up any for her stellar performance in Queen. That was because she refused to be a part of the show. She didn't show up for Filmfares either, but was awarded the coveted award for her nuanced acting because that's how you honour talent. If that doesn't scream of credibility, we don't know what does.

What a turnout!

Even the most reclusive of actors are seen jiving on the stage at the Filmfare. In fact, it was endearing to see Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor and Varun Dhawan bonding big time at the awards show. They clicked pictures, acted crazy and pulled each other's legs. May be the ladies can learn a thing or two from the men, eh? After all, it's one big, happy family!
