Being grey is the latest thing. The one-time good guys turning negative all of a sudden are climbing the ladder of fame more than the original villains and vamp. Who are these people? They are the husbands of our favorite bahus. They play the role of dominating, insecure, aggressive, chauvinistic, abusive husbands who most of the time reduces their husbands to tears. Mohit Malik aka Samrat Singh Rathore in Doli Armaanon Ki Who knew the suave and the handsome Mohit Malik could play dirty and torture his onscreen wife? He plays the role of Samrat Singh Rathore in Doli Armaanon Ki (Sony TV) who has no respect for his wife Urmi (Neha Marda). He is a male chauvinist who shouts at her all the time, cheats her and hurls abuses at her even in front of other people and family members. He ignored her during their honeymoon and romanced with other women. He is a tough businessman and very ambitious and takes care of all the responsibilities but being a workaholic, he has no space for personal relationship. He marries Urmi only for the sake of his family and shows a very cold attitude towards her. The only time she showed any caring attitude towards her was when she became pregnant with his child. Mohit Malik with this grey shade is earning more fame day by day. Aditya Redij aka Raghav in Na Ana Iss Desh Mein Laado The hot Aditya Redij gained popularity with the role of Raghav in Colors’ Na Ana Iss Desh Mein Laado. Raghav’s the dearest son of Ammaji (Meghna Malik) the matriarch of the family and village which was corrupted with cases of female feoticide. Nobody dared stop her and the only person to do so was Sia (Natasha Sharma) and she plotted against her. Raghav fell in love with her and married her. But Sia came to know that he married Sia to torture her and to teach her a lesson. Raghav shocked the audiences through his transformation from a romantic to a wife beating man. After a lot of drama and incidents he started loving Sia and accepted her as his wife. Raghav’s character was an instant hit among the audience along with Ammaji and Sia’s character. Avinash Sachdev aka Shlok in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon….Ek Bar Phir Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon….Ek Bar Phir of Star Plus started off with low ratings as it could not match the popularity of its prequel. Shlok (Avinash Sachdev) and Aastha (Shrenu Parekh) fascinated the audience with their cute romance. Shlok got married to Aastha. But little did they know that it was calm before the storm. On their first night, Shlok revealed to Aastha that he didn't love her but married her to take revenge on her by destroying her life. He also blackmailed her that if Aastha left he would trap her father in a corruption case. So Aastha endured both physical and mental torture that he put her through. But once she left the home and Shlok, on his father's command, went to bring Aastha back, and when she refused, he dragged her, and carried her and forcefully brought her back. Avinash convinced everyone with his role as an abusive husband and made us feel empathetic for Shrenu. Karanvir Bohra aka Viraj Dobriyal in Dil Se Di Dua Saubhagyavati Bhava Dil Se Di Dua… Saubhagyavati Bhava on Life OK main lead Viraj Dobriyal portrayed by gifted actor Karanvir Bohra, was an obsessive husband of Jaanvi (Sriti Jha) who, under the guise of love physically and mentally tortured her. A possessive husband, wife-beating person who suffered from obsessive compulsive disorder. Karan was successful in portraying two personalities of Viraj, suave perfect husband of Jhanvi, in the outside world while at home he turned abusive and dominating. Karanvir did exceptionally well with this role. Vikas Manaktala aka Aditya Jagannath in Main Naa Bhoolungi Vikas Manaktala aka Aditya Jagannath of Main Naa Bhoolungi (Sony TV) is gaining popularity amongst the audience for his role. Aditya under the name of Sameer married Shikha (Aishwarya Sakhuja) because his first wife could not conceive. Shikha who was unaware of Sameer’s plan married him and eventually gave birth to a son. But once she came to know that Aditya was cheating her, he tried to kill her by pushing her off the cliff. Vikas with ease enacted the character of a loving caring husband as well as the cunning businessman who throws off people from the cliff. Akshay Dogra aka Satya in Do Dil Ek Jaan Do Dil Ek Jaan (Life OK) told the story of Antara (Nikita Sharma) and the goon Raghu (Ayaz Ahmed). They fell in love and decide to get married. But as the circumstances would have it and with the prodding from Raghu’s Godmother Daya Mai (Pragati Mehra), who from the initial itself hated Antara, she got married to Raghu’s brother Satya (Akshay Dogra) to take revenge on Raghu. Satya and Raghu hated each other a lot. But Satya became very insecure and believed that Antara continued loving Raghu, so he mentally tortured her every second. As fate would have it, Antara got pregnant with Raghu’s child. She tried to abort but she couldn’t as she realized that she still loved Raju. Heavy drama followed and in the end Satya killed Antara and Raghu. Nobody thought that this good-looking guy who charmed the audiences with his loving rich boy role in Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon season1, could bring out the rustic and cruel character of Satya with so much perfection. Vivian Dsena aka RK in Madhubala...Ek Ishq Ek Junoon Madhubala...Ek Ishq Ek Junoon on Colors follows the story of a middle class girl Madhubala (Dhrishti Dhami) who was born on a film set and has since then grown up in that environment. Madhu was happy leading a simple lifestyle until she met RK (Vivian Dsena), a leading superstar. Their story is also one with a lot of hits and misses. But they get married and after a lot of drama, finally fell in love. But by this time Madhu’s acting prowess was discovered and she entered the movies. Initially she was the loving caring husband but the superstar in him turned insecure. He mentally tortured her and tried to hold back his wife’s success. Every day he created one or the other problems as he wanted her to be in his shadow. Once Madhu got pregnant, he became normal and went back to his loving caring ways. The story has moved on since then but Vivian has really played both a hero and a villain to great perfection. Gaurav Choudhary aka Parmeet in Bani Ishq Da Kalma Parmeet (Gaurav Choudhary) of Bani Ishq Da Kalma on Colors is a lying cheating husband of his wife Bani (Shefali Sharma). Initially he was all very attentive and caring with her but once he got hands on her ancestral property and sold it in order to make money, he left her. Eventually, Bani realized that her husband has abandoned her, but she was determined to get her rights as a wife. She decided to search for him and bring him back. When she discovered him, he was about to marry another girl for money. She stopped it and they both returned. An angered Parmeet made her life hell by torturing her both physically and mentally every day. Later on Parmeet planned to get Bani killed. So when all the family members were out one day for picnic, he trapped her in a malfunctioned boat and let it loose. The cute Gaurav Choudhary was successful in portraying this role of a cruel husband for which he won great critical reviews. Shashank Vyas aka Jagdish in Balika Vadhu Doctor Jagadish (Shashank Vyas) aka Jagya of Balika Vadhu on Colors is a victim of child marriage. Yet that doesn’t give him any right to mentally torture his wife Anandi (Pratyusha Banerjee) whom he married when they were just children. They were best friends turned lovers once. But when Jagya fell in love with another girl named Gauri (Anjum Farooki) from his college, his whole attitude changed and he blamed her, scolded her for studying, insulted in every possible way. He secretly married Gauri and brought her to home and gave Anandi a lot of pain. But Gauri had evil intentions and she instigated Jagdish against the whole family especially Anandi. Shashank Vyas surprised the audience with his transition from a cute boy role to an ill-mannered husband who had no respect for Anandi’s feelings. Aanshul Trivedi aka Pramad in Saraswatichandra The talented and good looking Aanshul Trivedi was seen as a drunken abusive husband Pramad who poured his life’s frustrations on his simple housewife Kumud (Jennifer Winget) in Star Plus’ Saraswatichandra. He was an alcoholic, a meaner and cruelty poured out of him in the form of a volcano and he kept fighting with his wife. He abused his wife both physically and mentally. He forcefully poured alcohol in her mouth and tried to burn her alive. Aanshul has given his best to this role especially in layering out the complex emotions and the variant shades of the character. Viraf Feroze Patel aka Mrityunjay in Ek Boond Ishq The powerful character of Mrityunjay played by Viraf Patel in Life OK’s Ek Boond Ishq is the latest abusive husband in the town. He is accused of murder and rape. Mrityunjay is the angry young man who is always brooding. He plays an emotionless character whose only goal in life is to torture his wife Tara (Chhavi Pandey) whom he got married to in jail. He tortures both physically and mentally so that she would move out from his life. The story has moved on but Viraf will be remembered for his nasty side forever. Rohit Khurana aka Vansh in Uttaran Colors’ most popular show Uttaran has produced some powerful star cast to the industry. One of the prominent is Rohit Khurana aka Vansh, who played the parallel lead in the show. Vansh was an obsessed, fanatic husband of Ichcha (Tina Dutta) who was also a drug addict and a bit insane. He believed that his wife had extramarital relation with her ex-lover, Veer who was also Vansh’s younger brother. Rohit did an excellent job in playing this challenging role. He made a great impact in the minds of audience with this character especially in emotional scenes and in the scenes where he turned abusive with his wife. Iqbal Khan aka Anshuman in Tumhari Paakhi Iqbal Khan plays the role of Anshuman Jindal, a handsome and suave rich businessman in Tumhari Paakhi in Life OK. Anshuman got married to Pakhi (Shraddha Arya), a village girl, when they were children. Later on, after many years due to some circumstances Anshuman had to bring back Paakhi, reluctantly. But he didn’t want her in his life. So Anshuman intentionally created problems for her so that Pakhi would leave. Though Anshuman appeared to be a perfectionist from outside, he was completely damaged and emotionless within. So when Paakhi came home, he made her do ridiculous tasks so that she would feel incompetent and not up to the role of a successful businessman’s wife. Though he was not involved directly, he let others make fun of Paakhi and disrespect her publicly.
