Writer's Block: When Sasural Simar Ka went on adaption spree

Sasural Simar Ka

Long ago, we heard of a phrase- “You can mimic a result, but not the creativity…”

And that is what exactly we feel like saying to the team of writers of Sasural Simar Ka.

The daily soap, which started six years ago, has come a long way… but now it seems that the writers are too tired to come up with new tracks in the series. Result? The team seems to be on an adaptation spree. Well, the show that started off as Simar’s life at her in-laws’ is now more into supernatural stuff.

From the promo to the track, they have adapted everything from international television series and our own desi regional films.

We actually don’t remember when this adaptation drama started. While the latest one is the Makhhi track, perhaps, the entrance of the Naagin (Sara Khan) was the first alarm for the viewers. The concept of the snake woman was inspired from Sridevi’s Bollywood flick.

Furthermore, the writers also incorporated a theme from the Indian epic Mahabharata. Yes, the way Pandavas lose their wife Draupadi in a board game, Prem also bid Simar to win back his property from Rajveer (Siddharth Vasudev).

If we remember right, the series began on a note of empowering women…

If all these were not enough, the serial copied…oops…took inspiration from international series Game of Thrones. Recently, the promo of SSK, which created ripples among the audiences was a blind adaptation of global hit House of Black and White’s promo. *facepalm*

Now, let’s remind you of another plot. Recently, Simar had visions about Bhradwaj family, via a television show. Ahh, does it ring any bells? Yes, it sounds uncannily similar to R. Madhavan’s flick 13B.

And the latest one is of course the Makhhi track, ‘inspired’ from the south blockbuster of the same name.

We rest our case, team SSK.

Well, all we can say is that we hope you guys gather your wits soon and come up with something original.
