Dance is a superpower: Punit Pathak

Punit Pathak

Dance is a superpower, says the dynamic and ultimate dancer Punit Pathak, who is judging the dance reality show Dance India Dance Season 5 on Zee TV.

Interestingly, Punit started his career with the same show as a participant, and now the young man is all set to judge the prestigious show.

The very excited Punit who has even acted in the movie ABCD spoke to Tellychakkar on his journey, dance and more. Read on…

From a dancer to a choreographer to an actor and now a judge, how has the journey been?

I was part of the audience in Dance India Dance Season one. To make my dream come true I participated in DID Season 2. I was the assistant choreographer in DID 3 and 4, and today I am here giving interviews on being the judge of Season 5. The journey has been extremely fruitful and satisfying.

Like every year, this time there will be three different groups; what qualities would you like to have in your team members?

I would like to see soul in dancing. I am a trained dancer and I know the proper techniques. Knowing them is very important as you need to dance correctly in order to avoid any sort of injury.

There are two other dance reality shows coming up - Star Plus’ Dance+ and Colors’ Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa, why did you choose to be a part of DID?

I was offered all the three shows. It took lot of time for me to decide, but at the end I felt I should come back to my home (DID). It was a proud moment for me when I was asked to be a judge of DID. I would thank Zee TV for this chance.

How do you feel when people ask for your autograph?

I have tasted stardom since DID Season 2. My house doorbell used to ring every 15 minutes with people lined up to meet me. I think Zee TV has a massive reach and that’s why people connect very well. But this stardom didn’t come so easily. I have slept on road signals and have worked very hard.

What are your responsibilities as a judge?

The best part is that I can connect with contestants very well as I have gone through all this previously. Before signing the contract the first thing I asked was, will the participants get proper food to eat. When I was a contestant I used to take permission to even go to pee. Thus I know the struggle and ordeals that contestants go through. I would be more of a brother than a mentor or a judge.

What is dance for you?

Dance is a superpower to create something new. I am glad that slowly people are recognizing my dance style.

Do you want to concentrate on your acting career?

I would love to act as I enjoy this process, but my passion right now is dancing. I was a good dancer and that’s why I got ABCD. So let’s see what destiny holds for me.

Punit… Keep dancing, keep shining!
