This had to happen sooner than later. Finer singers getting less public patronage in Indian Idol isn’t a new phenomenon. This week, it was Arpita Khan’s turn who according to Sunidhi Chauhan was improving with every performance. TellyChakkar spoke to Khan on her elimination… You looked very sad after your eviction, but now you are at your positive best and smiling. What changed your attitude? During the ‘God’s Special’ episode, it was pointed out that I pray to God a lot during eliminations. Yes, I do because I believe in God. When I got eliminated I was extremely disappointed and sad. But soon enough I looked at the brighter side of it and took it very positively. I thought God has something else in store for me. I still do feel sad as I have to leave all the contestants and go but, I am sure there is something good waiting for me. So what went wrong? I really don’t know! I was put in the danger zones for three consecutive episodes. But I was not all that bad for being there. Even the judges appreciated my performances but I don’t know why the viewers voted me out. However, I thank the audience to put me in ‘Top 9’. Who, according to you are the top 3 contestants? It wouldn’t be right to take names here. In this competition everyone has improved a lot with time. Everyone has the potential to be in the top three. But my favourite contestants who I want to see in the top are Shashi Suman and Shivam Pathak. Who is your favourite judge? I like all three but from my childhood, Sunidhi Chauhan has been my favourite singer. So she is my favourite judge. Also, I feel she too has a soft corner for me. Who was your closest friend here? My closest friend was Manisha Karmakar but unfortunately she got eliminated. Of late, I was extremely close to Tia (Kar). What do you plan to do now? First I want to go back home to Kolkata. I am desperate to meet my family as all this while I was deprived of meeting or even calling them up. I haven’t thought of shifting to Mumbai as yet, but if I have to do so for work, I really wouldn’t mind. My dream is to become a successful playback singer. Whom do you look up to in the singing industry? I think it would be unfair to mention one single name. But Lataji (Mangeshkar) has definitely inspired me a lot. Do you feel you need to change something to make you a successful singer? I need to improve my singing style. Apart from that, I want to lose weight and groom myself.
