From tonight, Sajid Khan will be back at what he does best on television i.e. taking potshots at Bollywood celebrities. This time though, he'll be sitting across them. The incorrigible actor-turned-director is set host his first chat show Sajid's Superstar's on Colors. Tellychakkar caught up with him at his residence. In this exclusive, Sajid talks on his show, his relationship with actor Riteish Deshmukh and more. Read on Is Sajid's Superstars your brainchild? Yes, I've had this concept in my mind for many years. In my earlier shows I used to invite celebrities for special episodes. I'm glad it's finally materialised. However, I wanted the title to be Star, Yaar, Kalakaar but we already have a show with this title. I'm a little finicky about Sajid's Superstars as the title because I'm not an egoistic person. You’ve earlier mentioned that this show is a lot like you and a lot unlike you. Why is that? I say that because this show has got a lot of stuff which is Sajid Khan and a lot of stuff which isn't. This is a fun-filled show and that's what you associate with Sajid Khan. The show's title Sajid's Superstars is little misleading. People might think Sajid is a superstar which I'm completely not. Nobody would watch such a show for Sajid Khan. The show is about the superstar guests and not me. Will we see Sajid's Superstars or merely Sajid's friends? Bollywood celebrities on television often only invite their close pals. Who in the film industry isn't a friend? You'll always invite a friend and not a stranger for dinner. Similarly on a chat show, it's always your friends who'll come. They come because of you. I can ask a few tricky questions to a friend and not to a stranger. Of course, you have lot of fun with your guest but you can't be rude to them. I wouldn't call anyone who I don't know but I'd like to call somebody who the people would like to see. Who are the people you would like to call? I'd love to call Sachin Tendulkar and Amitabh Bachchan, who I think has a great sense of humour. The drawback of calling your friends is that people would perceive that things are scripted. Plus, you have an image of a funny man. So, one would say that you're merely joking? Ranjit rapes in films but he doesn't do that in real life. Similarly, I have an image of a funny man on television. Speaking of scripts, I wouldn't like to be pompous but those who've seen my work on TV know that I never work with scripts. I challenge anyone to have an impromptu session to prove me wrong. As one who is more known for his spoofing, does Sajid Khan fit the bill as a conventional chat show host? The conventional hosts get boring after a certain period and I would never like that to happen to me. Are you and Riteish Deshmukh a pair? This question is being raised by Malaika on your show. It's just not Malaika but earlier a newspaper too had carried an article that we are a gay couple. But I'm telling you on record that both Riteish and I are not gays but very much heterosexuals. However, even if I were a gay, I wouldn't be ashamed of myself. How does Sajid's Superstars differ vis-?-vis other chat shows? It's got a sit down comedy session wherein you judge the humour of the celebrity via a laughometer. Then there is a section where I show them their best and worst scene. Then we've got other people asking questions to the guest and I merely take a back seat. Tell us about somebody's worst. Sanjay Dutt best was obviously Vaastav. His worst was in a 1985 film called Mera Faisla. In one of the scenes, Sanjay is dressed as a Punjabi woman wearing high heel sandals which eventually made him look like a 6 ft 6 inch lady. Who did you enjoy having most on your show? It's difficult to pick one but Riteish's episode is really funny. The Anil Kapoor episode was full of gossip and bitchy talk. Akshay Kumar entered the show by falling. Karan Johar and Farah came together and neither of them allowed me to speak much. The Viveik Oberoi episode is the one to look out for. It wasn't seriously funny but it had lot of things which people wanted to hear from him. Why is it that your style of humour always starts and ends with Bollywood? Yeah, that's true but in India there are always restrictions. You can't joke on politicians, Gods, religion. Bollywood is like the favourite punching bag. Besides, by and large it's only Bollywood for me because that's what I understand the best. My upbringing has been in the industry and I know the inside out of Bollywood. What do you have to say on the Shah Rukh-Salman Khan spat? Reportedly, you were there at Shah Rukh's place to offer your support. Yes, I too read this but I want to clear that I wasn't invited for any party. I was in Los Angeles then. Like any field, our industry too has camps. Why is it that you still haven’t found a soul mate? Well, I'm not an easy person to live with. I'm very demanding and I need a partner who's as passionate about movies as me. After a fight, we can sit together and watch a movie. I have been in many relationships but somehow things didn't work out. How is Sajid as an uncle to triplets? Oh! I love to spend most of my time with them. I smoke a lot but when I'm with them I stay away from smoking for hours. That's the power they have. I hope to quit smoking soon
