Rashmi Desai who got her first television break in Pari Hoon Main and is currently doing Uttaran is a well known actress. Here in a chat with TellyChakkar she talks about her show, her family, especially her mother and how her fans do little special things for her. Tapasya is finally home? Yes, I am very happy to be home. It was unexpected for me after all the hardships I had to undergo. Tapasya learned to stay on her own during her bad phase. She had to work to survive and she did take up whatever work came her way from housekeeping, to working in a salon and also becoming a salesgirl. Her father has taken her home and now she feels like a princess. Are you happy with the way your character is shaping up in the show? I am absolutely happy for whenever I feel my character is becoming monotonous I ask for a change. The creative team is very helpful and we all work together. They do ask me or even the other actors how we feel about the character for we are the ones playing them. The creative team has their one line stories but elaborating that idea and to keep it going for a week requires some discussion. So, we all work on the story so that it doesn't become boring. Do you think that the TV industry too has become a part of the rat race and its all about survival of the fittest? Do you see any competition around you? I think it not only about television industry but the competition is in every field. I make sure that I give my best and put in my 100% in what ever I do. I ensure that everyday I learn something new and go home satisfied. Lately there has been news of you fainting while shopping. Is your work affecting your health? I wasn't looking after myself because of which I had got viral. And, I used to have fever all the time because of it. While we are shooting we hardly get any time to buy necessary things. So, when I got some time between my shoot I went to shop and that day I had 103 degree fever. So,while I was shopping I fainted and I started crying. But, luckily my character is so popular that people know me and so they helped me. There was this woman who brought a chair for me and gave me a glass of water and called up my mother. How do you have fun on the sets? I do a lot of masti on the sets and I just can't stop. If there is any new guy on the set we will trouble him from morning to evening till he gives up. Nandish (Sandhu) also does a lot of masti but our director is our guru. When we all sit to have lunch we usually discuss about things and then we start pulling each others legs. We are like family. There are talks of you and Nandish dating each other. If there is something and if its true people will come to know about it. I wouldn't like to comment on this. Reports suggest that you and Tina Dutta are not the best of friends? All I can say is that Tina and I are friends. What kind of people do you like staying away from? Are there any such people around you on your set? I stay away from crook and selfish people but haven't found any one like that on sets. We all are like a family and have so much fun together. Tell us a few things that you hate about television industry and why? I love everything about this industry I am into this industry by my choice and I don't find any reason to hate it but have zillion reasons to love this industry. Does it become difficult for you to go out in public? No, I love it. I don't get time to go and meet my fans so when I interact with them I get to know more about them. I like listening to them, their suggestions, talk about the things they like and not like about me. Their feedback helps me improve my acting skills. I like this part of being known and not be just another girl. Have your fans ever done anything special for you? Many times. The other day someone kept a bouquet of red roses at my doorstep. Some people even send me shayaris and songs around 1 in the night. There is this four year old from Kolkata who calls me every day before and after he has his lunch till I pick up his call. And all he will say is "Tapu didi maine khana khaliya" and I say "very good baby" (laughs). I used to feel that only adults like my show, but kids too like it. When I had been to Raipur a little girl gave me a pen with an ugly face made on it and I have kept it nicely. What do you do in your free time? I hardly have any free time and if I do, I hang out with my family and friends. How do you spend your time with your family? I have my mother, bhaiya and bhabhi in my family. But my bhaiya is all the time busy and the only day he gets chutti is on a Sunday; even then he avoids going out. My bhabhi loves going out but she does not leave bhaiya and so finally it's my mother and I who end up going out. My mother is like a boyfriend to me who is ready to go out with me any time. There are times when we go to watch movies. At parties too I don't have to keep looking after her for she gets along with my friends really well. Have you ever done anything without informing your mother as a kid? Yes, I have and I still do it. Say if I want to go for a party, she usually refuses so if I want to go for one I tell her I have a night shoot. But once I am back home I tell her the truth because I just can't hide anything from her. Then she gets really angry but then everything is back to normal after a couple of days. What are your hobbies? I love dancing, driving, travelling and watching news channels in my free time to keep myself updated. I also love listen to music especially shastriya sangeet. Do you also want to do Bollywood? Do you have any plans related to Bollywood career? If I get any good offer why not for acting is my passion, be it big screen or small screen doesn't matter. I am open to both.
