Playing a warrior princess gives me a sense of pride, power and glory: Pankhuri Awasthy

Pankhuri Awasthy

Gorgeous Pankhuri Awasthy who is seen as Razia in historical &TV drama Razia Sultan (Swastik Productions), still can't believe her luck that at such an early stage in her acting career, she has bagged the role of a warrior princess.

We caught up with the actress to know more about her experience with the show. Read on…

How has been your journey so far?

It has been fantastic journey as an actor, as a person. I never expected this sudden popularity. My selection was a quick decision of the production people. I knew I had to play an extremely important character like Razia but how big the responsibility is; I realized only when I started shooting for the show. I have grown as an actor and learnt a lot.

You have to go through the process of getting into character of Razia everyday with heavy outfits and jewellery. Tell us something about that?

It takes me around an hour to get ready. Wearing such heavy jewellery and outfit drains out my energy but when I get into the character I start feeling like Razia and I regain my energy. Initially I had little issues but now it’s like usual thing. Sometimes it become problematic as our set is located far from Mumbai and it’s too hot here.

Tell us something about your rigorous training and experience of playing the warrior princess

I have not undergone any sort of training when it comes to fencing and horse-riding. I have learnt everything on the set with the help of the creative and production people. I feel lucky that my first show is a historical show as I have got to experience a lot of things here that I would never get to do in a daily soap.  Playing a warrior princess gives me a sense of pride, power and glory.

You are shooting so far from Mumbai, how often do you meet your friends and family?

I hardly get time to meet them; I have been to Lucknow my home town once in last 8 months. Our schedule is too hectic we hardly get time to sleep. And we also don’t have any entertainment here.

Do you enjoy the action-packed sequences in the show?

Absolutely, I love doing such amazing action packed scenes. Though it consumes a lot of energy as the swords and costume are too heavy but I love challenges in my life.

A moment in life you want to relive again

In the show there was scene where all my family members are dead and I had to cry my heart out. That was an amazing shot so I would want to relive again.

How is Rohit Purohit as a co-actor?

Rohit is extremely co-operative, caring and helpful. He is a good actor and has a special aura around himself. He also has a good hold over the character, so it becomes easier for us to do any scene. Audience loves our on-screen as well as off-screen chemistry.

In real life do you wish for a warrior husband?

I don’t wish for a warrior husband, but he should definitely be manly and a gentleman.

Great luck princess!
