Rahil Azam is loving every bit of playing the lead in Gulaal

He is tall, handsome and a software engineer. And no, it’s not a matrimonial ad. After working in Bangalore for some time, Rahil Azam moved to Mumbai to make a career in acting. He is tall, handsome and a software engineer. And no, it’s not a matrimonial ad. After working in Bangalore for some time, Rahil Azam moved to Mumbai to make a career in acting. And if you look at some of the shows he has done from Hatim, Yeh Meri Life Hai, Bhabhi, Resham Dankh and Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Naa, Rahil has had more hits than misses. But the zenith of his career was perhaps Babul Ka Aangan Chootey Naa in which he portrayed a transvestite. Well, he is back with Gulaal on Star Plus. The tall and lanky actor looked happy and confident at the launch of the show. “It took some time for me to be back in action, but after working in this show I can confidently say Gulaal will be liked by many. Thankfully, right from Hatim to Babul my characters have been always appreciated and I hope Gulaal will not be an exception,” he smiles. Ask him to describe his character and he says, “My character is young, vibrant and of course very powerful. The way it has been written it feels I am acting in the first show of my career! I play a 25-year- old guy from a village. He has the determination to do anything and everything for his village and is always ready for action. I am enjoying every bit of it.” Talking about his style of working, he adds, “I have always given 100 per cent to any character I have played so far and that is why I get exhausted after finishing a show. But that is the way I work. I believe in doing homework for my character. But at the same time, there have been many instances when instinct and spot innovations have been a game changer for me.” How is he gelling with the Gulaal team? Do they appreciate his style of working? “In Gulaal, I have a fantastic team. Our director Siddharth Sengupta always helps me to bring out my best and we share a great rapport. Sometimes we just need to exchange glances to know what is needed. The scene gets done automatically!” Rahil feels that the actors of Gulaal are on the same wavelength which makes it easier to work. “Wave length is very important when you are working as a team. And a daily soap is all about team work. I am very happy after quite a while people will see me in a lead role. This means a lot to me.”
