Review of Naagin 2: Refreshing story with disappointing visuals

Review of Colors Naagin 2. Read full story here....
Naagin 2

Naagin 2 on Colors, coming from the stables of Balaji Telefilms, has to be one of the most-anticipated sequels on Indian TV.

Must say, the season 1 of the show was so much loved and appreciated that the vacuum created with its ending was indeed felt!! And with this started the curiosity factor of how the next story will shape up and how the drama will be built around the already existing characters and the new ones!!

Must say, the icing on the cake in the launch episode of season 2 has to be the return of Rithik aka Arjun Bijlani. He will be surely missed, but the story ahead got a great momentum with the makers opening up from where they exactly stopped few months back.

The feel-good-factor of seeing the favourite jodi of Arjun and Mouni lightening up the screens even in the season 2 will remain fresh in audiences’ minds.

With the story taking a leap and moving to Songarh, the sea-change in the way the story would be presented was of course predictable. But what left us disappointed to a huge extent were the visuals!!

Simply nothing to compare in terms of the high standards set in season 1.

Why do we say so?

The VFX seems to be of very poor quality, with the scenes failing to add value in terms of its presentation. With the backup of a strong storyline from where the new plot has to emerge, the sequences failed to create a gripping ambience for viewers. Alas, this is one place where we miss the opening season (not that the special effects premise was great, but comparatively better).

The technical brilliance of the camera was something that was missing!! We are sure a creative intellect like Ekta Kapoor would have certainly realized this and make amends.

Mouni displayed her acting prowess. Even as the aged mother, Mouni looked graceful. Full points to her for carrying out the contrasting double roles of the mother and daughter with great élan. As Shivangi, Mouni showed the needed spark and this actually comes across as a breath of fresh air.

Karnvir Bohra is a good actor for sure, but guess he will have to work harder to recreate the magic that Arjun Bijlani created from the very first scene in season 1. His romantic appeal is also something new to the show, and there will be nothing like it if Bohra and Mouni set the stage on fire with their blossoming chemistry.

Sudha Chandran as Yamini and Adaa Khan as the ageless beauty Sesha, now called Ruchika, actually are at ease and take forward their characters from where they had actually left.

Naagin 2 seems to be filled up with an unneeded youth brigade. Too many faces to fathom around Bohra and Mouni, who come in as their cousins. Let’s hope the story concentrates only on the important characters.

Also, the love story of Bohra and Mouni seemed very unreal, as the momentum took to a high in very quick time. Guess a love story can be told with lots of patience, rather than putting it on a fast- forward lane.

Overall, a good story that has opened up, and the success of the season will depend on the manner in which it will be taken forward. It’s buck-up time for the director, and for the VFX team!!Given the high standards set in the first season, there needs to be lot of improvement made this time around.

Furthermore, the real beauty of the story will lie in the fact that Bohra’s character (which presently stands alone, away from the world of the naagins) needs to be embedded really well in the life of the naagins and the other supernatural forces in the show!!

A good beginning in terms of the story and the prime cast!! But a long way to go...
