Adhvik Mahajan opens up on rejecting a film for a TV show, Read for deets...

Actor Adhvik Mahajan is all set to star in a new Amritsar-based TV show - Teri Meri Ik Jindri.

MUMBAI: Shooting for the show in Punjab for two months, Adhvik, who hails from Jalandhar, said the show has allowed him to relive his fond Punjabi memories of eating Kulchey-Chaney and visiting the Golden Temple.

“My family is in Jalandhar and I make at least four trips back home in a year.”, says Adhvik, who shared a theatre group with ace comedians - Kapil Sharma, Sugandha Mishra and Bharti. “I was never into comedy, but then back then neither were Kapil, and Sugandha doing full-fledged comedy. We were all actors, though Sugandha was into singing. As they all went into comedy, I came to Mumbai and started with films and then TV.”, the actor revealed.

As Adhvik makes a comeback to TV as lead actor, he says he was also working throughout the lockdown. “I wrote a short film Tamas and approached some actresses from TV to play female lead since I knew TV fraternity well. But, no one really responded. I guess people must be treating the lockdown like a break (laughs). But, Rashami (Desai) loved the script and that’s how I did Tamas with her in the lockdown.”, says Adhvik, adding that in hindsight, he is glad Rashami played the part since she did a 'brilliant job' on it.

When the TV industry resumed shooting, Adhvik was offered this show. For Adhvik, who has debuted his career with a lead role in a Bollywood film Contract in 2008, having tested both mediums of TV and films, the platform has become irrespective to him as an actor.

“Before this show, I had almost signed a film. But then this show was also offered. Since dates become an issue, I had to choose between one and I decided on this Tb show. I started with theatre, when I used to perform in the university, debuted as the hero of hit Bollywood film, did South films, to more recently acting in 'Laxmii'. My career graph was never defined by the medium.”, he said, adding that he had the fortune to be able to choose his roles.

“Irrespective of the length of the role, I weigh in the character. I guess, this is what into making me an actor and I managed to still stay relevant. In this show, I play a completely different character. Even my own people are shocked at how different I appear in this.”, he confirmed.
