MUMBAI: Financial fraud is widely prevalent. It is a scam that is becoming increasingly commonplace. Even people who are educated and aware about it sometimes fall in the trap.
Actor Anup Soni delves into the phishing scams that have been sweeping the country for a few years now and that mostly originate from a small, seemingly innocuous town in Jharkhand, called Jamtara.
Leaning on Netflix’s new true-crime series, Jamtara-Sabka Number Ayega, Anup sheds light on how these underprivileged and uneducated scamsters successfully deceive people from all strata of society, from doctors and engineers to media person to part with their hard-earned money.
'It’s shocking how common financial fraud has become in the day and age of widespread mobile phone and internet use. I recently came to know that a journalist from a reputed news wire has also been duped - which means that absolutely no one is spared! It’s important for as many people to be aware of what’s happening to protect themselves and the earnings they surely work hard for,' he says.
