MUMBAI: After weeks of speculation and growing chatter among fans, television star Gaurav Khanna has finally addressed rumours surrounding his alleged fallout with Anupamaa co-star Rupali Ganguly. Speaking with poise and honesty, the actor cleared the air on their professional dynamic and his absence from the show that left viewers wondering about his future as the beloved Anuj Kapadia.
Shedding light on his journey, he offered a thoughtful perspective on the on-set atmosphere, his rapport with fellow actors, and what truly matters to him in his career.
When asked about claims of a rift with Rupali Ganguly and allegations that several actors had exited the show due to her, Gaurav responded with admirable clarity. “Honestly, any sensible person in my position wouldn’t walk away from a role like Anuj Kapadia over a third person, especially when the character is so popular and has the producer’s full backing,” he said. “It’s quite immature to point fingers at someone else for one’s departure from a show.”
Reflecting on his initial excitement upon joining the cast, Gaurav recalled how thrilled he was to work alongside industry veterans. “I was genuinely excited to be part of Anupamaa, especially with senior artists like Sudhanshu Pandey and Rupali Ganguly. I had watched them on television during my younger years and never imagined I’d one day share the screen with them,” he shared. “I’m a very secure actor and person. I’ve always believed that my work would speak for itself. The love and appreciation I’ve received from the audience fills me with nothing but gratitude.”
Speaking about Rupali as a co-actor, Gaurav was full of praise. “She’s an outstanding performer. I’ve learnt a lot from her, especially the art of emoting. I even asked her once how she manages to cry so effortlessly on screen. When Rupali cries, the audience cries with her, and that’s a rare talent. I consider myself lucky to have shared screen space with her.”
Addressing rumours of conflict between the two, Gaurav firmly denied any serious issues. “There was never a rift between us. Yes, at times scenes would be altered, and since she’s a senior actor, I understood that her suggestions often enhanced the scene. We maintained a strictly professional relationship. Our pairing as ‘MaAn’ is one of the most talked-about on television, and I knew our on-screen chemistry was translating well; that's what really mattered.”
And as for whether he considers Rupali a friend, Gaurav replied with honesty and humility: “I wouldn’t call her a friend in the true sense, because a friend is someone you call or speak to regularly. We don’t share that kind of personal equation. But she’s someone I’ve learned a great deal from, and I truly respect her for that.”
As the buzz around Anuj Kapadia’s return continues to build, fans will no doubt be keeping their eyes peeled for Gaurav’s comeback— one that promises to bring both nostalgia and renewed energy to the beloved series.
