“Ashwin’s emotions, journey, and the layers in his personality really interested me,” shares Samridh Bawa of Sony SAB’s ‘Pushpa Impossible’

Ashwin

MUMBAI: Sony SAB’s Pushpa Impossible is striking a chord with viewers through its uplifting narrative and heartfelt characters. As Pushpa (Karuna Pandey) pursues her dream of becoming a lawyer, she finds herself up against fresh hurdles that challenge both her resolve and the bonds she holds dearest. In recent episodes, viewers witnessed Ashwin (Samridh Bawa) secretly helping his ex-girlfriend Anjana (Arshi) recover from cancer, while hiding this truth from the rest of the family.

In this candid conversation, Samridh, who has stepped into the role of Ashwin, opens up about joining Pushpa Impossible, finding his rhythm as this character, and the moments that make the show feel like home.

1. You stepped into one of the much-loved roles in Pushpa Impossible. How does it feel to join a show that has already been connected so deeply with audiences?
I feel really great to be part of such a wonderful show that’s loved by so many people. Honestly, it felt like walking into a family I’d been watching from afar. There’s so much warmth on this set, from Karuna ma’am’s calm energy to Deshna’s constant jokes, I never once felt like the ‘new guy’. Everyone on set is so talented, supportive, and positive; it truly feels like a family. There’s a certain comfort in knowing that you’re stepping into a show that people already care about, and it pushes you to give nothing less than your best.

2.Taking over an existing character always comes with its own challenges. How did you prepare yourself to bring your own flavour to Ashwin while staying true to the character’s essence?
Definitely, it’s a task to perform a character that’s already loved by the audience. The first thing I did was sit down with the writer and director to understand Ashwin’s emotional graph, what drives him, what frustrates him, etc, because I didn’t want to reproduce what was done before; I wanted to bring my own nuances to the character. The director and creative team were kind enough to support me in that process. We had long conversations about his silences, his reactions, and those little nuances are what make him endearing. I’m trying my best to honour that while also letting a bit of my own instinct seep in.

3. What was your first reaction when you were offered this role, especially knowing the character’s layered journey ahead?
Acting has always been my passion, and I genuinely enjoy bringing different characters to life. Whenever a role excites or challenges me, it gives me a lot of joy to perform it. When I heard about Ashwin’s character, I was immediately drawn to it: his emotions, his journey, and the layers in his personality really interested me, and I was eager to portray him on screen.

4. Are there any specific traits of Ashwin that make him different from characters you’ve played in the past?
I have played many different roles in my career, and I always try to bring variety to the characters I portray. Ashwin’s unconditional love for his family, especially his mother, showcases a warm and friendly connection with them. He is generally calm but can become very emotional and reactive when situations emerge against his family. The way he bonds with his siblings and takes on the responsibilities of an elder brother has helped me understand sibling relationships even better.

5. It has been a few weeks now that you have been shooting with the cast. Any memorable behind-the-scenes moments?
The energy on this set is contagious. Darshan, Deshna, Deepti, and I have all become really good friends now, and there’s always a lot of fun banter between us during breaks. Once, during a serious emotional scene, Darshan cracked a joke right before ‘action’, and it was so hard to maintain character because I was trying not to laugh! Everyone here is such a happy soul, which makes every day on set memorable and joyful. It’s rare to find that kind of genuine camaraderie, and I think the audience can feel it in the chemistry on screen.

6. The show has a strong and loyal fan base. What message would you like to give them as you step into this pivotal role?
Change is always tricky, especially with a character you’ve grown attached to, but I promise I’ll do my best to make Ashwin feel just as real and heartfelt. I hope you like what I’m bringing to him and continue to shower your love. It’s your support that keeps Pushpa Impossible alive; we’re just part of the story. You’re the reason it continues to matter.
