'Chandramukhi’ gets the pink slip

Piku Sharma, who made her debut last year with Sunil Agnihotri’s Chandramukhi , has been shown the exit door. This move comes as a surprise especially with the show doing exceedingly well on Doordarshan. Chandramukhi director and producer, Sunil Agnihotri says, “Her starry attitude has cost her dearly. There were no issues with me but I was receiving lot of complaints about her from other team members. We reached a stage where other actors too weren’t comfortable working with her. Unfortunately, I was left with no option but to replace her.”

Unfortunately, I was left with no option but to replace her.” Citing an example of Piku’s uncompromising attitude, Sunil says, “Our actors are not averse to sharing rooms but Piku apparently had problems with it.” Piku though has a different story to tell. “On the contrary, it was my co-actor who refused to share it with me. None of my co-actors ever complained to me. I always kept a professional relation with my co-actors. I wasn’t into late night parties. I don’t whether this upset them. My lifestyle is simply and I’ve always stuck by it.’ While Piku isn’t disheartened with her sacking, the Assamese girl is disappointed that Sunil never personally conveyed this decision to her. She says, “One fine day, the assistant writer merely informed me that my character had come to an end. I still don’t know the reasons for my sacking. It would have been nice had Sunilji conveyed it to me personally. I’m not too upset over it. I guess it’s all part and parcel of this profession.” On a parting note, Sunil says, “What’s occurred is really unfortunate I wouldn’t want this episode to affect her future prospects. I wish her all the best. Piku will be replaced by another rookie actor Simran Nayar.”
