Mythology, fantasies, costume dramas have always been a integral part of Indian television. Director Sunil Agnihotri has made a career out of these subjects. After the stupendous success of earlier shows such as Jai Ganesha, Betaal Pachisi and Chandrakanta, Sunil is ready to dole out his latest costume drama Chandramukhi. This hour long weekly will be aired on DD1 every Tuesday from the third week of October at 10.00 p.m. Chandramukhi revolves around the tale of Vanraj (Sachin Khurana), who turns into an animal on amavasya (moonless night) and kills his own people. There's also a curse upon him, whereby his father turned blind after there eye-contact between the two. The only way for Vanraj to restore his father's vision is by getting a particular flower from Princess Chandramukhi's (Piku Sharma) Kingdom - a place where no one comes back alive. The other starcast includes the likes of Krutika Desai, Deepak Parashar, Natasha Sinha, Dinesh Hingoo and Raja Chaudhray. Director Sunil says, "Chandramukhi is very different from my others shows. We shot in locations like Raj Pipla, Mahableshwar and soon we'll be traveling to Kullu Manali. We have also invested a lot in showcasing the best special effects. So, it's going to be a real visual treat for the viewers." Were there any apprehensions in backing such a show? Producer Nitin Mathuria, (Applause entertainment), says "I have lot of conviction into the show. Sunil has come up with an out of the box idea. Chandramukhi will be projected in a grand scale with fine special effects. It will be just like what you find in your movies." Veteran actress Krutika Desai plays Durgeshwari, a dacoit. She's had a real troubled past and that forces her to take up dacoity at an early age. She says, ' One of the beasts from Chandramukhi's kingdom has captured my lover Vijendra Singh, so I travel to Roopnagar to rescue my man." Natasha Sinha will be seen essaying the role of Padmavati, who is Vanraj's mother. "My husband (Deepak Parashar) abandons me after he finds that our son Vanraj is cursed. Padmavati is then forced to live in the jungle with her son. Later, she's shocked when she learns that Vanraj turns into an animal on amavasya." Vanraj turning an animal on amavasya will indeed be quite a spectacle. One just hopes that our telly viewers don't go to sleep on the dreaded night.
