In 'Choti Sarrdaarni' I have tried not to become the typical serial vamp: Delnaaz Irani

MUMBAI: Delnaaz Irani is currently portraying the character of Martha in "Choti Sarrdaarni". She plays a negative character in the popular show but says she is not trying to do the typical vampish things, like rolling eyes, etc., and has kept it very natural.

Apart from "Choti Sarrdaarni", she will also be seen on Tata Sky Adbhut Kahaniyan's "Hijack". This is the first time that she will essay a cop on-screen.

"In 'Choti Sarrdaarni', I have not gone over the top, I have not become the typical serial vamp, because I did not want to make it look exaggerated and take it to another level, I have kept it very natural. I have seen these kinds of people in my life as well, so just taking examples from real life that there can be rude people, and they can insult, helped me with my character. The response has been fantastic, and I am sure people are going to love my cop avatar too because it's a completely different and new side of me," she said.

The "Kehta Hai Dil Jee Le Zara" actress is quite happy with the kind of response she is getting, and said, "I think people have loved me extremely in the show. I thought that the kind of popularity the leads have people are going to hate me for what I will be doing to them, but it's always good that people love to hate you because then you know that you are doing a great job. Every time I get a post or DMs from my fans I realise that I have done the right thing somewhere by taking up this role, and I am doing it with perfection."

And though she is content with the kind of opportunities she is getting on the work front, she asserted that comedy is her happy place and she will never say no to that genre.

"I am a workaholic, this is the only thing I can do, acting is my passion. So whether it's a comedy or it is these kinds of serious roles, or a negative, or a grey shade, I will do it. With this cop role, I will prove that even with my personality, I come out as a very strong cop in the show. I think as an actor I will keep proving with my different genres and different acts that a good actor is always a good actor, I will be proving that to people," she said.

"Having said that I think my soul resides in the comedy genre. After every such role, I think I need my dose of comedy, so basically I have lived on comedy, I have thrived on comedy, so if I get an offer I will do it. I will never say no to any kind of genre. However, I would like to mention that whatever I do other than comedy makes me happier, gives me a sense of pride, and most importantly breaking the norm that my personality is fit only for doing comedy, and that is something I have never liked," Delnaaz signed off.
