Happu Ki Ultan Paltan is the spin-off of 'Bhabhiji Ghar Pe Hai' and in the show, Happu Singh works as a police officer in Kanpur. The plot follows Happu Singh and his large family, which includes his wife, Rajesh Singh, his mother, Katori, and his nine children.
TellyChakkar spoke to actor Yogesh Tripathi on his character becoming iconic, receiving fan's reactions and love, and his journey.
Your character became iconic within a short span of time, and you’ve been playing this role for seven years now. How does it feel?
Y.T- It is quite a special feeling when you are appreciated for your work and the surprise part is that it was supposed to be only a small character, but then the role turned into a recurring role and then to have a spin-off of a successful show and it is centric around your plot and your character, all because of fans reception, is surreal to me.
Do you think your character has evolved, and that there is more of Happu than just the fun guy?
Y.T- The Character has definitely evolved, and of course, Happu Singh is more than just a fun guy because these shades are shown in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan where his emotions as a father, his emotions as a husband, his emotions as a son, and as a friend, all are shown and those emotions are much more than just being funny and so complex.
Are there any similarities between your character and you?
Y.T- I don't think there are too many similarities apart from the language because Bundelkhandi is my mother tongue so the language is similar to my real life. When I'm with my friends, we talk the same language. Being funny is also similar to some extent, but that is only for my friends and close ones.
From FIR to Happu, how has your journey been and especially with receiving this level of love from fans for all the roles that you do?
Y.T- It is an amazing feeling, when I go to an event or when I walk out in public and people recognize me, they like to talk to me in Happu Singh's style. When I go to events and I talk the way my charter does, they reciprocate and it makes me feel like they really enjoy these antics of Happu Singh, so basically, they are loving this character and I am really very happy and it becomes my responsibility to carry and to maintain this level and deliver to the audience.
Yogesh Tripathi has played multiple iconic roles in F.I.R, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, and Jijaji Chatt Par Hai, and now stars as the titular character in 'Happu Ki Ultan Paltan'.
