MUMBAI: Actor and casting director Ratnesh Mani, who is known for his roles in films like Drishyam, Airlift, and Dishoom, has been effortlessly managing both professions.
In a conversation with TellyChakkar, Ratnesh shares whether casting directors aspire to become actors and much more.
Is it true that casting directors aim to become actors?
“Yes, the majority of casting assistants aspire to become actors someday. As a casting assistant, you get to make many contacts of your own. This works to your advantage. But that's not the case for every casting director. Some are genuinely dedicated to the casting field.”
What elements do you consider while casting someone?
“If I get the freedom of casting someone for his/her talent, then I'm the happiest. I would rather do that than find someone based on their looks. It is a bit annoying when the demand is just for features and not acting talent.”
With whom do you wish to work in the future?
“As an actor, I would love to work with Nikhil Advani. He gives a lot of freedom to his actors. He also gives them the liberty to get into the skin of the character.”
Good luck, Ratnesh!
