MUMBAI: The television industry is known for its dramatic, romantic, mixed masala, and off-the-hook shows. Did you know how these shows turn out a big hit? One of the major contributions comes from the casting agencies, as they find the perfect match for that most loved character on screen.

Sidharth Yadav is a renowned name in the casting world; he is the name behind bringing #Shivi on-screen and turning it iconic with Kanwar Dhillon and Alice Kaushik. Not only Pandya Store, but he has also done casting for famous television shows namely Balika Vadhu 2, Yeh Vaada Raha, Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka both seasons, Apharan, and many more.

In an interesting conversation with Sidharth, he shared some intriguing insights about his journey and the shows he did as a casting director. Check out what he had to say:

Tell us about your journey as a Casting Director.

I began my journey as a casting director in 2015 with Trishula Productions, I did the show Yeh Vaada Raha, then I went on to do Anjaam (crime-based episodic). Apart from the crime show, I did Colors' few adored shows like Silsila Badalte Rishton Ka (both seasons), Internet Wala Love, I even forayed into OTT with Altbalaji's Apaharan, I was assisting Vinod and Sphere's Dark Seven White. Then I went on to do Pandya Store and now got done with Balika Vadhu 2.

Were you inclined towards casting only?

When I came to Mumbai, I was not really sure what to do in this field. I was here to learn and the first Production house I saw was Rowdy Rascal Productions and it's been almost six years since I stepped into casting. There are times when I doubt my decision but then I realise it's been very long, and I have come quite far in this journey.

I am eager to get out of the TV and explore more into Films and OTTs, when it comes to TV, there is barely any recognition in the TV casting as the credit often stays due. Many times production houses look out for options as actors that haven't had a flourishing career in recent times due to the budget crunch. This becomes a major challenge for us, casting turns into shopping for them.

Do reality show contestants have a major chance on TV?

Yes, indeed as they have already shown their craft on screen. You would often see them trying their acting antics while being a part of the reality show. So it gets them a closer chance to foray into TV with daily soaps. I believe you would still only get a chance if you are a good performer. It is important to do justice to your profession, as there are many people who are waiting for that chance to become a household name.
