MUMBAI: Mallika Nayak is one of the most popular actresses on television. She has been a part of shows like Kulfi Kumarr Bajewala and currently, she is showcasing her acting prowess in Kumkum Bhagya.

While some shows resort to time leaps to boost TRPs, "Kumkum Bhagya" has faced challenges in achieving the same success it had earlier. In an interview with Mallika, we discussed her perspectives on TRPs and the unfair targeting of actors who portray negative characters.

Mallika said, “I think that the show has been stagnant in terms of TRPs. Some things have not gone as expected and I think we will need to give time as the tracks haven't opened yet. Once the tracks open and the core story is streamlined we shall be on the higher side of the ratings according to me.”

Discussing audience engagement, Mallika shared, “Audiences love it when couples face separation and eventual reunion. The suspense around their reunion piques the curiosity of the viewers, making them more engaged in the storyline. For instance, moments between Prachi and Ranbir are hit-and-miss, creating anticipation for when they will finally come face to face. Television has an age-old formula, and it has been working for years.”

Addressing the issue of actors being targeted on social media for their portrayal of reel-life characters, Mallika elaborated, “Audiences understand that actors are not the same as the characters they play on-screen when they follow their social media accounts. Targeting actors for their on-screen roles is unjust and incorrect. Although actors often claim not to care, it does have an impact. These negative characters are crucial in making the show more interesting.”

Actors are only trying to entertain the viewers. It is because of these negative characters that the show becomes more interesting.”

I have played mostly positive roles but when I played a negative role in Kulfi Kumarr Bajewala, I too was targeted. However, I took it positively by thinking that I had done a great job in a negative role.”
