MUMBAI: Actress Harleen Kaur Rekhi, who is currently seen playing the lead in Kamdhenu Gaumata, spoke about the significance of Teachers’ Day and expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the mentors who have shaped her journey both personally and professionally.
“For me, my guruji Dilip Sir is truly special,” Harleen shared. “He is not just my Kathak guru but also the first person I consider my audience. He never misses a single episode of mine, whether it’s a show or even a social media post. Sometimes I may forget to watch my own episodes, but he always remembers. His support and encouragement as a mentor have been incredible in my life.”
Quoting the Sanskrit shloka Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu, Guru Devo Maheshwara, Guru Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Guruve Namah, Harleen explained the role of a guru. “A guru is someone you meet before God—a guiding light who shows you the right path, who scolds you when necessary, and who showers love and care. I feel very blessed to have such mentors in my life.”
Harleen counts three individuals as her true mentors. “My Kathak Guru, Dilip Saha Sir, has stood by me through thick and thin. Then there is Rahul Sir, who has been a constant guiding light in my journey. And Prem Sir—though I’ve known him only for six to eight months, the lessons he taught me in that short time will remain with me forever. They are life lessons.”
The actress believes having a guru is essential in life. “With a guru, many challenges are resolved just with their blessings. Their guidance is so powerful that sometimes you don’t need to struggle—things fall into place. And you don’t go searching for a guru; if it is destined, they come into your life. At the same time, it’s important to be a good disciple, to be worthy of their guidance.”
On Teachers’ Day, Harleen expressed her gratitude to all her mentors, acknowledging their role in shaping her not just as an artist but also as a person.
