The actress also broke stereotypes and decided not to compromise on her dignity even if it meant walking out of her second marriage. In a recent interview, Shweta spoke her heart out about what her kids went through while she faced the traumatic phase of her life. Talking about her first marriage, she said, “I was often told that separations and divorce would leave a great impact on the kid and hence I shouldn’t take that step. But one fine day, I thought to myself about the impact that an abusive father is putting on my daughter’s mind. My daughter has seen her father entering home late in the night in an intoxicated state. She has seen him walking with other females in our house. I thought having a single parent will have less trauma on her fragile mind and heart rather than having to witness an abusive and toxic relationship.”
In the interview, Shweta also spoke at length about the societal pressures and taunts that she and her kids had to go through. She said, “People have always judged me and believed that I might be responsible for both the broken marriages. They feel that I might have provoked my partners to be violent with me. There’s a lot of sexism in how people judge broken marriages and the thought process is still against any woman, which I believe should change.”
