I am single and will have someone special in my life when the time is right: Sumit Vats

Sumit Vats
We know him as Rishi Diwan of Zee TV’s Hitler Didi, the dyed-in-the-wool brat and the flirtatious spunk rolled in one with oodles of charm that made him the most loved man on television. Yes, we are talking of Sumit Vats, a journalist by qualification, who took acting to be his first love and contributed every bit of his talent in shows like Kashi – Ab Na Rahe Tera Kagaz Kora, 12/24 Karol Bagh, Surya The Super Cop, Mukti Bandhan and of course Hitler Didi. While the actor is now on a sabbatical, we indulge in a conversation with him about his career and personal life. Says Sumit, “I have always been a part of theatre, and since I like writing and reading I took up to the course of journalism. The aspect that I love most about acting is the way we artistes need to weave ourselves into the skin of almost any character that we have to essay. This helps us to fully understand people and the situations they face in their lives.” Now the actor is spending most of his time watching plays, writing and reading. What next on his platter? “Well, as of now I am waiting for a nice role to come my way. I have received offers for playing lead roles in episodics, but the characters that I was tipped to play have not been impressive. In fact I would be glad if I get an opportunity to do something in the comedy genre. Comedy roles are tough to enact as it requires us to understand the kind of audience we cater to. What is funny to me might not be for them. Essaying emotional roles are a little easier as people can establish connect with the same easily,” he informs. Talking about his friends, Sumit mentions actor Sandeep Baswana, director Vikram Ghai and actor, screenwriter, director, comedian, author, playwright, painter, producer and poet, Aakash Pandey as some of his closest pals in the industry. Recalling a cherished incident he reminisces, “I remember while I was shooting for Hitler Didi, I met Sandeep Baswana and told him how I was a big fan of his from the time I was a child. Post that, when we went on to grab a bite from the local market, a mob started gathering around us and started praising him. The aunties there went gaga admiring him and telling him of how they were a fan of his from the time they were young. Once we left the spot after giving out autographs, Sandeep mentioned of how he hates people praising him. I soon realized that I too had done the same. After this, the two of us had a good laugh over it.” Talking about his personal life, Sumit mentions of him being single and not planning to mingle. “I am very much single and am sure I will have someone special in my life when the time is right. For now, I am very focused towards my career and would like to inform my fans that I would be back soon to entertain them. Till then, I would like to shower them with love and wish that the Almighty blesses each one of them,” he observes. Sumit we wish you luck and wait for you to come back with a bang on television!!!
