Vaishali Thakkar, better known as Damini of Colors’ Uttaran (Film Farm Productions) has come a long way as an actor. Here is the actress in conversation with Tellychakkar.com, talking at length about her role and much more. On the ups and downs in her character in Uttaran, Vaishali says, “I do realize I work on TV and it has a certain graph. Hence ups and downs are a part of it.” So is she somewhere down the line unhappy with her character? “I have been a part of the show from the start and I know that when one is working for a daily soap the focus is more on the leads. Hence the other characters keep coming and going. But I have no complaints in these three and a half years.” Three and a half years is definitely a long period of time to be on a soap. So is the actress looking out for a change? “No I am not, as this show is my commitment. It does not matter if it had just lasted for six weeks, six months or even if it goes on for six years. I will still be a part of it. I am a practical person, and I know that my role is strong and my character is not dying. I will not look out for something else.” Since Vaishali’s commitment with the show is only of 20 days every month, she does get a lot of time for herself. “I like making torans and haars (garlands) for the mandir. Usually I start making a lot of it during Diwali”, explains Vaishali. Apart from this the actress also likes to read and watch movies. Vaishali reveals yet another facet of hers, " I am writing a script as of now, and that too keeps me busy.” The actress who plays a grandmother is very much single and is happy that way. “I am happy being single and let me tell you, there are no feminist reasons behind it.” But is she seeing somebody, “Not really. I do not want the audience to know the real me as I feel as an actor, we must maintain that distance from viewers.” Vaishali goes on to explain why actors need to distance themselves from viewers, “Actors these days have crossed the line, which used to keep the common man guessing about them and their lifestyle. Today everybody knows which toothbrush is an A-list actor using. When you know so much about a person there is no fantasy left. You will not enjoy what you are seeing on screen. I feel there always has to be some kind of an aura, hence demarcation between an actor and his or her audience is always beautiful. Therefore I would just want people to appreciate my work.” Well… we completely agree with you Vaishali.
