Rahuol Lohani is quite happy with the response his silent SAB TV comedy Gutur Gu 2 (Fireworks Productions) has been getting.
“The episodes are nice. The concept is a bit safer as there is no competition, given the fact that no other channel wants to take a similar risk.”
How did you bag this role? “Given this very seldom used concept, producer B P Singh mostly prefers to work with actors who were already a part of season 1. This is unlike shows like CID in which you can keep introducing new characters,” he answers.
“I have already played in all kinds of genres be it comedy, serious and romantic shows. I took it up when offered because this was something that I had not done before,” he adds.
At this point, he reminds us that he was supposed to have done the role of the lead character Balu.
“Eventually, Kunal Kumar got the job for he really resembled Sunil,” he avers.
On the big differences between Season 1 and 2, Rahul says that this time they are focusing more on the production values. “During the first season, they paid more attention to the story as it was a novel concept, but now since they have same director (Prabal Baruah) who has also written the story, they are now raising the bar in other aspects as well. Honestly, since I was not part of Season 1, I really can’t comment. But what I have mentioned earlier are the views of Bhavna Balsavar and Jaydutt Vyas, who have continued from the previous season, have said,” Rahul observes.
Later Rahul informs us that just before signing on the dotted line of Gutur Gu 2, he had also been offered Tota Weds Maina, again for SAB TV. But since the latter was still to be launched, I chose the former as you know in TV, things can change at the last minute.”
His decision of not taking up Tota Weds Maina has worked because Kavita Kaushik and Gaurav Gera have come out of the show. “While Gutur Gu 2 continues to go strong, we were rating around 1.2 TVR before the IPL and now are down to 0.8,” he quips.
The only challenge what Rahul feels is that Gutur Gu 2 takes around 6 to 8 days to finish which does not leave him enough time to venture into something else.“Luckily for me, I don’t act for a living, that is taken care of by my entertainment company,” he observes.
Rahul is also full of praise for his co-star Anita Hassanandani. “At first, I wasn’t too sure as to how she will be; but all said and done, she is very sweet and a good actor. As this is her first brush with comedy, she is very eager to learn and always asks us if her scene was good. She is very receptive to our suggestions as well,” he maintains.
