I haven't seen these big channels do anything for Indian culture - Sandeep Mahavir

Sandeep Mahavir
Sandeep Mahavir is a classical dance guru comes from a gharana of talented singers, dancers and tabla players of Rajasthan. He recently made his debut as a judge on Sai Baba Telefilm’s dance reality show Rum Jhum on DD. Sandeep who has also choreographed in Bollywood movies like ABCD and music video albums will be seen judging this dance show with well known choreographer Sandip Soparkar. In a conversation with Tellychakkar.com, he talks about his journey in the industry, his debut show and more. We started our conversation by asking him why it took him this long to come to the forefront and he averred, “There should be some sense for me to be on a reality show. It’s not about just jumping around. Rum Jhum was the right platform and show to be associated with. I have come on this show knowing so many forms of dance – Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Lavani, Kuchipudi and Folk.” We tell him that he wouldn’t be promoted on DD the way he could have been on a GEC channel to which he stated, “I feel you don’t get everything; at least I have a show. I haven’t seen these big channels do anything for Indian culture and I want to do something for it.” He further goes on to add, “I also believe that the one who is judging a talent based show should know that particular art.” When asked if he is hinting to any particular judge on a show he said, “No I am not talking about anybody in particular.” Lastly he told us, “There are a lot of talented people in India. Hence, I don’t think people should just ape the west.”
