I wear several paddings to get the shape right: Gaurav 'Mrs Pammi' Gera

Gaurav Gera
Gaurav Gera is one actor who can slip into any character but his latest avatar of Mrs Pammi Pyarelal, on Colors’ upcoming show with the same name, is grabbing the eyeballs. Hence, we at Tellychakkar.com got in touch with Gaurav to understand what all went in to get the perfect Pammi on-screen. Interestingly, the actor was skeptical about playing this role, as he tells us, “Initially, I was a little confused whether to take up the show or not as I was to play a woman in a daily soap which is quite a task. But, the kind of person I am, who simply loves playing interesting characters, I took it up” How is it playing a woman on-screen? “It hardly takes me any time to get into the character and move out of it. But, I do forget a few things like taking off my nail paints. I remember I was wearing my slippers while boarding a flight and a security guard there asked me if I was newly married and I told him that I wasn’t. That’s when I realized I still had nail paints on my toes,” laughs out the actor. Gaurav also had to do a lot of girly things to get into the character. “I had to wax my legs and hands but then people scared me so much that I went for a hair removal cream. But, even there, after having removed hair from one of my legs, I got tired and left it mid-way. So, the day I went for the promo shoots, everybody had to sit and shave my hands and legs. There is basically a need for a lot of support system with me playing a girl. I have two people for my make-up, two for my hair and one for costume. So, it’s basically an entourage that follows me.” Talking about Mrs Pammi’s perfect body, the actor goes on to reveal, “I wear several paddings to get the shape right.” The process has also been very painful for the actor as wearing heavy jewellery for 12 hours and wearing heels is not at all easy. In fact, he has now started respecting the women in the industry, as he avers, “It’s so painful to wear the jewellery and it hurts. It also takes a lot to maintain a smile on your face in spite of wearing all those heavy stuff. I completely respect women on TV as they wear those heavy earrings even though their ears seem to be tearing. They wear heels even though their back hurts. As a man, I did not know any of these things.” The artiste now believes that he might have to start giving his inputs when it comes to dressing up as Pammi. He observes, “I did not know that girls, on TV, usually decide on their hairstyle and also work on their look every single day. I think that I might have to regularly work on my look as well. Even the selection of nail paints is important. The best part of me wearing the nail paints is that I’ve stopped biting my nails.” How did your family and friends react when they watched you as Pammi? “Wow, is how people exclaimed. In fact, when I sent my pictures to my mom and dad, my mom asked my father whether he feels like slapping me (laughs); but, after all, they are very understanding. They know the profession I am in but it’s just that they worry about the relatives. But fortunately for me, their response too has been positive. However my cousin sister hates me for playing a girl on-screen as then I look like her and people start comparing her to me,” concluded the actor with a giggle. Pammi Pyarelal – Gaurav, we wish you all the luck!!!
