Indian television comedians who made it BIG in the showbiz industry

Let's take a note of the eminent television comedians who keep entertaining the nation's public with their hilarious jokes and commentary.

MUMBAI: Our country may run short of many resources and not regret it's shortage but one thing that keeps it's citizens going even in hours of emergency is 'entertainment', which is better served through comedy, thus, binding people together from different backgrounds.

1. Kapil Sharma

Sharma rose to fame after winning the comedy reality television show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007. Kapil Sharma is both the stand-up comedian and the main host of The Kapil Sharma Show. He had also hosted the previous television comedy shows Comedy Nights with Kapil and Family Time with Kapil, along with another comedy show named Chhote Miyan. Currently, he's also offered Bolly cameos and lead roles in Hindi movies (mainly comedies).

2. Ali Asgar

Ali Asgar is an eminent comedian who has featured in many Indian soaps and later, in comical shows and reality shows. He appeared in SAB TV's show F.I.R. as 'Inspector Raj Aryan' and gained a higher public reach as 'Daadi' in Colors' show Comedy Nights with Kapil.

3. Bharti Singh

As an eminent Indian comedian and television personality, Singh is known to entertain the audience and the judges as the host of various Indian reality shows. She got married to fellow comedian Haarsh Limbachiyaa with whom she has currently paired-up on-screen to host the Color's show Khatra Khatra Khatra, that's conceptualised by Haarsh himself.

4. Raju Srivastava

Before the fore-mentioned comedians made their comic debut on-screen, this man ruled the arena of television comedy throughout the '00s. He ventured into stand-up comedy with the talent show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and finished as the 'second runner-up'. Following this, he subsequently took part in it's spin-off - The Great Indian Laughter Challenge - Champions, wherein he won the title of 'The King of Comedy'. He later participated in the comedy show Comedy Ka Maha Muqabala and had also appeared on Kapil Sharma's show Comedy Nights With Kapil.

5. Sunil Grover

He's that stand-up comedian who came into limelight for his portrayal of 'Gutthi' on Comedy Nights with Kapil, but gained immense popularity for playing the role of 'Dr. Mashoor Gulati' and 'Rinku Devi' on The Kapil Sharma Show.

6. Kiku Sharda

Kiku is known for portraying comical characters in comic TV shows like 'Constable Mulayam Singh Gulgule' in F.I.R. and 'Akbar' in SAB TV's Akbar Birbal. He had worked in Comedy Nights with Kapil, where he played various characters like 'Palak'. He was last seen in The Kapil Sharma Show on Sony TV, portraying various roles of 'Santosh', 'Bumper' and the famous character of 'Baccha Yadav'. He also played the character of Baccha Yadav's brother 'Accha Yadav', who is a foreign return.

7. Krushna Abhishek

Abhishek Sharma aka Krushna Abhishek earned appreciation for his comic roles in films like Bol Bachchan and Entertainment (2014). As a stand-up comedian, he made a name for himself after he participated in successive Comedy Circus seasons, Comedy Circus 2 (2008) and was a wild card entrant in Comedy Circus 3 (2009) with Sudesh Lehri, apart from being a part of Comedy Circus Ka Jadoo (2010) and Jubilee Comedy Circus (2011) as well. He is also a part of The Kapil Sharma Show 2, which started airing on 29th December 2018.

8. Sunil Pal

He was the winner of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge on STAR One. He has comical cameos in various Bollywood films. In 2010, he wrote and directed a comedy film Bhavnao Ko Samjho, which featured a record of 47 stand-up comedians, including Siraj Khan, Johnny Lever, Raju Srivastav, Kapil Sharma, Navin Prabhakar, Ahsaan Qureshi and many more.

9. Chandan Prabhakar

He was the first runner up in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3. He even played various roles in Comedy Nights with Kapil On Colors and the role of a tea-stall owner 'Chandu' in The Kapil Sharma Show, which aired on Sony TV. Kapil Sharma and Prabhakar are childhood friends who also worked together in The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3, Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. 

10. Sudesh Lehri

He participated in the 2007 comedy show The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 3 in 2007 and came third in the show after Kapil Sharma and Chandan Prabhakar. Afterwards, Lehri played in the show Comedy Circus as a contestant partnering with Krushna Abhishek. Together, they won three seasons and quickly garnered popularity as "Krushna-Sudesh". The duo appeared on Comedy Nights Bachao, Comedy Nights Live and Comedy Nights Bachao Taaza. His latest show The Drama Company on Sony Entertainment Television also features Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty.

11. Ahsaan Qureshi

Ahsaan (Ehsaan) Qureshi is the 2005 runner-up of Star One's The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. Most of Qureshi's jokes focus on political satire and social issues. Lately, he has been seen acting in a Bollywood movie Bombay to Goa (2007) and Ek Paheli Leela (2015). He was also seen in SAB TV's comedy show Hum Aapke Ghar Mein Rehte Hain.
