MUMBAI: Actress Pravina Deshpande, who was recently seen in the award-winning short film Thanks Mom, feels music has a special place in everyone's life. Speaking on the occasion of World Music Day, which is observed on June 21, she said, “It creates a favorable atmosphere for any form of work. My morning sometimes starts with just an instrumental bansuri. It's so soothing and reassuring.”

“At our family get-togethers, there's always a time at night when we take turns singing songs, and we collectively enjoy the music. It's a shared experience,” she added.

She agrees that the music one listens to impacts their mood, and vice versa. She said, “Sometimes the sounds of the instruments and the lyrics put things into perspective. It provides a sense of bonding and understanding.”

Pravina also stressed that it’s a proven fact that music heals—it heals a lot. She added, “Certain songs are reminders that life could be better if you wish for it, and at times, they simply distract you from your problems, pushing you through difficult days.”

Favorite genre and artist? “I prefer Hindi classics, especially Kishore Kumar. Listening to someone who is so familiar and comforting gives me a sense of connection. He had the rare ability to modulate his voice according to the style of the actors. I also like Arijit Singh; he has a good range,” she said.

“My all-time favorite songs are Aa chal ke tujhe from Dur Gagan ki Chaaon Mein and Jeena... Jeena kaise jeena from the film Badlapur by Atif Aslam. The humming at the beginning of Jeena Jeena is so calming that it takes me to a different world. Such is the effect of music,” Pravina ended.
