MUMBAI: Rahul Kumar Tewary's Jagadhatri recently premiered on Zee TV. The show has been produced under Rahul Kumar Tewary Production and airs every day at 10 pm. Suhita Thatte plays the role of the female lead's grandmother in the show, and the actress shared that it is one of the most compelling characters she has played in recent times. What fascinated her most was the character’s strength and loyalty in the face of adversity.
She said, "This is a very interesting role. In the whole family, this old woman is the only one who is backing Jagadhatri. Everybody is torturing her in the house. And this is the only woman who is standing by her, strong. So that drew me to it."
Recalling her first impression of the show, she said she was in for a surprise. She said, "This show has everything in it. I think that’s what the beauty of the show is—that it has a mix of everything. It has action, kitchen politics, emotions, and drama. It’s like the perfect blend."
Talking about preparing for the role, Suhita said that it is an ongoing, evolving process. She said, "Sometimes the brief keeps changing. From the creative side, they are experimenting with the characters. That is always a challenge, and that always keeps it interesting."
According to her, this constant experimentation keeps an actor fresh and alert every day. “That, in a way, is preparing you day by day. Basically, I feel for an actor to be able to face the camera every day is the biggest blessing,” she said.
Reflecting on the spiritual undertone of Jagadhatri, she said her character embodies deep faith. "This character is a very spiritual person. She knows the strength of the people around her. And she has a belief that only good will come out of whatever is happening," she said. Despite living among negative people, including her own daughter and daughter-in-law, the character continues to see the good in them. "She knows her daughter-in-law’s strength. That is why she tolerates her and supports Jagadhatri in doing whatever she is doing," she said.
Suhita described Jagadhatri as a story about discovering one’s inner strength. "Every human being has strengths, and one doesn’t always realize them. Jagadhatri is one person who is getting to do all that, and then some more. Every character has one’s own small things and big things. And this character has some very nice, warm moments. It will have lighter moments and some extremely serious, vulnerable, and powerful moments in her journey," she said.
When asked how Jagadhatri stands apart from other television shows, she believes the show is "completely differently engaging" because of its unique elements. She added that the show’s mix of vulnerability and power, especially with its female-led action sequences, sets it apart. "That will keep every other show apart from Jagadhatri," she said.
Speaking about working with Rahul Kumar Tiwari Productions, Suhita expressed her admiration for the team. "Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. He is very generous. Whenever he comes to the set, we get to chat with him. He is very entertaining. He is all out there in the entertainment industry. He is the epitome of all that," she ended.
