Since the last season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (Season 5) was a big hit, there is lot of pressure on producers BBC Worldwide to raise the bar this time around as well. To get into more details on this reality dance show, Tellychakkar.com caught up with Myleeta Aga, Creative Head and General Manager, BBC Worldwide Productions at the launch press conference of Season 6 and quizzed her on what big learning curves they have picked from previous seasons? “The first and foremost thing that we’ve learnt is ‘Don’t repair something unless it’s broken’. We have the best judging panel (Madhuri Dixit, Remo D'Souza and Karan Johar); this year too they seem to be working very well in tandem and intend to bring in some uniqueness in their judgements,” she informs. “The second point is that every season is like a new start-up when you have to find not one but twelve new faces. Each celebrity gives a different sensibility of dance to the audience. Choosing the right combination takes up most of our time and effort,” she adds. “This season we have a very diverse group (Shaan, Shweta Twari, Aarti Chhabria, among others) each of whom has a strong commitment to do their best. They are going to raise the bar for all other dance shows on the tube,” she avers. “Last but not the least we have also learnt that audiences react to efforts. Last season, we would have never thought that Isha Sharwani would be so popular. But, she really broke her back to give a superb performance week after week. That is not to say that others were not trying as well. This shows that it does not really matter where you come from and what makes you tick and where you go from here (growth during the show). This has happened in all other previous seasons as well,” Aga maintains. Aga also rubbishes talks of certain industry voices that song and dance reality shows is on its way out. “No, it is wrong; there will be ebbs and flows. But at the end of the day, audiences react to content, they want to be entertained and amused etc. So if you can get your mix right, you rock. Also each format is very different from the other. So you really can’t compare them at all,” she observes. Do numbers of shows dip with each passing season internationally? “No, we have done around 19 editions in the US and ten in the UK and with each new addition, the numbers have only hit the roof. This clearly shows that that we should not assume that viewers always want something new. If they are enjoying the stuff that they watch, there is something unique and interesting in every episode. Why rock the boat unnecessarily,” she asks. Before we wish her goodbye, she adds, "To increase viewer satisfaction, we are also trying different international variations in projections. The set is designed in such a way that it gives our dancers maximum space to showcase their skills The main brief is to make the ambience more glamorous, fun and fit for family viewing.”
