‘SAB pe jab bajenge dus gharwale hasenge ge sab.’ That was the line used by SAB TV when they had launched the ‘SAB pe 10’ band in August 2009. This band covered three new weekly shows, Thank You Jijaji, Sonu Sweety, Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai, and F.I.R was converted in a weekly show. (Subsequently, F.I.R was then converted to a daily)
Apparently, barely three months later, this band will be disbanded as Garima Productions’ daily ‘Laapata gunj’ will take the 10.00 pm slot. Jaspal Bhatti’s Thank You Jijaji, that has failed to rake in the TRPs, will come to an early end while the two other recently launched weeklies, Sonu Sweety and Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai will now turn into biweekly shows and take the 10.30 pm slot. All these changes will come into effect from 26 October.
Actor Asif Sheikh, aka Vibhuti Narayan of Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai, says, “It’s true that from 28 October our show will air every Wednesday and Friday at 10.30 pm. From now, we’ll now be shooting for more days.”
Requesting anonymity, an actor from Sonu Sweety says, “I haven’t got an official confirmation but it’s been heard that our show will now become a biweekly. Earlier we were shooting for five days in a month but now we’ll be doubling it up.”
We called Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai’s producer Rajeev Singh and Sonu Sweety’s producer Rajesh Berry but both were unavailable for comment.
Confirming the news on the above a source from the channel says, “Laapata gunj is launching from 26 October at 10.00pm. Sonu Sweety and Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai will now turn into biweeklies. I reckon Jijaji was supposedly contracted for 13 episodes only.”
Interestingly, when the SAB pe 10 band was launched, actor-producer Jaspal Bhatti was posed a query at the press conference as to why he didn’t think of making Thank You Jijaji into a daily. Bhatti had then stressed on the difficulties in having a daily sitcom and that Thank You Jijaji was a fixed 52-episode series.
Despite repeated attempts, Jaspal Bhatti remained unavailable for comment. SAB business head Anooj Kapoor didn’t revert to our call.
